Legislation would rid streets of 'obscene' billboards
State Sen. Tupac Hunter (MI)

For some time now, I have been very concerned with the explicit billboards along 8 Mile Road promoting topless bars and other sexually-oriented businesses. These are not the kind of images we want to see while driving with our families on our way to work, school, or church. These are certainly images that children shouldn’t be viewing on the streets of their neighborhoods.

Today Michigan is one step closer to ridding our communities of these inappropriate billboards. Recently, the Senate has cooperated in a bipartisan fashion to pass my legislation. Senate Bill 266 would restrict the kind of suggestive and inappropriate images that we now see on billboards.

It’s time to say enough is enough and to draw the line as to what images can be displayed in our neighborhoods. I have had the privilege to work with Mrs. Mary Little, a constituent and the President of Evergreen-Lahser/7-8 Mile Road Community Council, regarding the community’s concerns with this type of advertisement. Based on the letters I have received and conversations that I have had with constituents, few of us will miss these signs if my legislation is signed into law.

5. Children are the crowbar of fascism!
Any time legislation is enacted "for the children", expect even more erosion of civil liberties.

10. Truer words were never spoken!
The mere mention of children in any policy discussion is the red flag of all red flags.

And children aren't actually as stupid and vulnerable as these demagogues like to suggest. (OMG! What if they hear a four letter word or see a nipple?!?!?!?!?!?!)

It's just bullshit.

12. We must get rid of all sex in society for the benefit of children
We shouldn't show it, we shouldn't talk about, we shouldn't even do it because little children might find out.
