Pelosi: "I'm in my place" as speaker, thanks

By The Associated Press (AP) – 55 minutes ago

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi cast House Republicans as behind the times, or worse, after they suggested that the top American commander in Afghanistan should "put her in her place."

"They really don't understand how inappropriate that is," the California Democrat said of the phrasing, contained in a press release this week from the National Republican Congressional Committee.

"I'm in my place. I'm the Speaker of the House, the first woman Speaker of the House. And I'm in my place because the House of Representatives voted me there," she added. "But that language is something I haven't even heard in decades."

She was taking issue with a National Republican Congressional Committee press release that accused her of backing down to liberals in her caucus who oppose Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal's recommendation for an escalation of troops in Afghanistan. ... http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5h60NSqvsrJRZVmUL6ZU0YwSfEYhQD9B716480

4. My then-boyfriend, now husband, got me a tshirt in the 1980s that read:
A Woman's Place is in the House.

And the Senate.

6. Of course, they didn't seem to bring out the old cliche when their gal Sarah P. Quitter was up for
the big Dick position.

7. Just when you think you have heard the worst from them
you hear something WORSE! What the HELL was THAT about. THere is no decorum in congress anymore. Maybe they should start stapling tea bags to their heads now!

8. Its hard to defend idiots, especially from other idiots
I keep watching the standards for politicians sink lower and lower. I would expect such a bumbling mistake from local level politicians, not national. But its just as stupid to deliberately mis-interpret this. Of course, gross stupidity is one of the least crimes Ive seen the AP accused of in the last decade.

The obvious interpretation is that as an anti-military politician for most (if not all) her career; as Speaker of the House instead of CinC; what makes her qualified, or even in the chain of command, for her to tell a general anything? That is OBAMA's job, and if Pelosi wants it, she should run for the Oval Office herself. Otherwise, she can recomend to Obama, or shut up. Congress completely surrendered any authority in this war when repubs and Dems BOTH failed to stand up to Bush.
