Oklahoma Abortion Law: Details To Be Publicly Posted Online
A new Oklahoma law requires physicians to disclose detailed information on women's abortions to the State's Department Of Health, which will then post the collected data on a public website. The controversial measure comes into effect on November 1 and will cost $281,285 to implement, $256,285 each subsequent year to maintain.

Oklahoma women undergoing abortion procedures will be legally forced to reveal:

1) Date of abortion
2) Country in which abortion is performed
3) Age of mother
4) Marital status of mother
5) Race of mother
6) Years of education of mother
7) State or foreign country of residence of mother
8) Total number of previous pregnancies of the mother

Proponents of the legislation claim that women should not be concerned over their privacy since no names or "personal information" will be reported. This defense is questionable. Feminists For Choice argues, "In reviewing the actual text of the law, the first 8 questions that will be asked and reported could easily be used to identify any member of a smaller community."

The Center For Reproductive Rights, Rep. Wanda Jo Stapleton (D-Okla.), and Okla. resident Lora Joyce David have filed a lawsuit to prevent this contentious abortion bill from going into effect, on the grounds that it violates the state's constitution.

4. What, no pap smear?
Let's see the companion bill for boner-in-a-bottle prescriptions. We can have men going around with erections if they don't plan on propagating the species, can we? For every dose of Viagra or Cialis or whatever, we'll need to see:

1) Date the pill was taken
2) Country in which the erection performed
3) Age of the erectee
4) Marital status of the erectee
5) Race of erectee
6) Years of education of erectee
7) State or foreign country of residence of erectee
8) Total number of pregnancies achieved from the erection

No personal information there! And if it's good for the goose, I'd say it's good for the gander!

7. Term limits could be the reason this mess is going on in
our government. It is now controlled by the repubs. For years I believe we were saved by a dem. majority, go figure. What nonsense we will endure here until these do gooders get kicked out. I don't watch the local news or paper so this is a shock to me. It seems Okla. is going backwards instead of forward. Instead of corp. rule here in OK it seems to be ruled by the pulpit, ok, throw in the oilies.

13. When I was in OKC
I worked for Planned Parenthood, and we routinely went to the state capitol to try to oppose some of the right wing legislation, and to support the few good guys in office. Actually, we were relatively successful. I can't believe this has passed - it is criminal.

8. And we criticize the Taliban for walking all over women's rights.
Are women becoming like the ones in "A Handmaid's Tale"? This is truly frightening. What's next taking away our voting and property rights?

Is on the phone to his rep's office just railing at them about this. I just heard him ask "what part of our lives are you going to intrude into next?!" He's pissed and righteously so, I'm going to call my rep next.
