Deborah Orin- dead?
Anybody read Deborah Orin, columnist, in the NY Post? I just saw on one rw site that she has been reported dead. If so, the world is just a little bit better today. Hate to say that- it isn't like me- but she is/was a really nasty obnoxious mean bitch.

18. I agree with you auntAgonist
I sometimes find the things said here shameful and embarrasing. If we as liberals believe we are entitled to think and speak what we believe than so are those how disagree with us. A person has died and those who loved that person are bereaved. We need to show more respect.

By Liz Szabo, USA TODAY

Leading cancer experts say key research could come to a halt because of proposed spending cuts to the National Cancer Institute.

President Bush has proposed cutting the institute's budget for the second consecutive year. The cuts would reduce the NCI's 2007 budget by almost 1%, or $36 million, to just over $4.7 billion. Although NCI director John Niederhuber notes that the institute's final budget has not been set, he's concerned that Congress could shrink his budget by 5% to 10%.

During a visit recently to the National Institutes of Health, Bush said NCI funding is still relatively high and has doubled in the past decade. Bush also noted an American Cancer Society report showing that the number of cancer deaths dropped for the second year in a row, falling by 3,014 from 2003 to 2004.

"We're proud of the significant investment that we have made in cancer research," White House spokesman Tony Fratto says. "We're also proud of the results showing that researchers are delivering on that investment."

38. Anybody here remember the death of Paul Wellstone?
The rejoicing on hate radio and even in some parts of the MSM was overt, extended, and far more offensive than anything I've read in this thread. Not being a watcher of the tweety show, I'm not familiar with Ms Orin, but I imagine she has family who will miss her and I'm sympathetic to them. But I would be a bigger hypocrite than holy Joe Loserman if I said that the world was any worse off due to the loss of one wingnut journalist.

I'm not glad she's dead. But I won't miss her. I don't even know who the fuck she was.

45. Obituary from the NY Post
Remember one of our own, Molly Ivins is battling cancer - sorry to see some on DU act like Freepers.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/01282007/news/regionalnews/post_bureau_chief_deborah_orin_dies_regionalnews_cynthia_r_fagen.htm

Deborah Orin-Eilbeck, The Post's longtime D.C. bureau chief whose passion for politics and unrivaled integrity kept Washington on its toes, died yesterday after a battle with cancer.

"Laura and I were saddened to learn of the death of Deborah Orin-Eilbeck," President Bush said.

"Deb had a distinguished, decades-long career as a journalist, covering every presidential campaign since 1980 and joining the New York Post's Washington bureau in 1988.

"Deb fought a valiant battle against cancer with the same tenacity, devotion, and determination that she brought to her work in the White House briefing room through numerous administrations," the president said. "She'll be missed by all of us at the White House who cared deeply for her."

Post Editor-in-Chief Col Allan said, "Deborah was one of the nation's finest political reporters. She was never part of press group-think that so often rules Washington.

#6 The Media

Incidentally, the media didn't seem particularly interested in the return of Boner, Blunt, and the Mississippi Hair Helmet, preferring instead to obsess over "divisions" within the Democratic party like they'd never seen a leadership contest before. Oh my god! They voted! And they didn't all agree on who the new House Majority Leader should be! This is the end of the Democratic party, I tells ya.

Apparently the media have forgotten that Democrats like to hash things out and debate issues, and the pundits seem stunned that the Dems aren't marching in lockstep like the Republicans have done for the past six years. By selecting Nancy Pelosi as the first ever female Speaker of the House, Democrats gave Republican commentators everywhere an opportunity to demonstrate their feelings about strong women. Here's Mort Kondracke:

Well, so, the history on House leadership is, we had the "Hammer" - Tom DeLay - and now, we have the "Wicked Witch of the West," you know, Nancy Pelosi...

Not ugly enough for you? Perhaps you prefer New York Post Washington bureau chief Deborah Orin-Eilbeck's take:

Forget 'The Devil Wears Prada' - the hot show in Washington is 'The Shrew Adores Armani.' In just a few short days, House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi has turned into a caricature of the shrill, petty woman boss.

Hmm. Methinks there might be just a little bit of sore-loserdom creeping in here.
