Woman's 7-Foot-Long Dog Could be Record-Holder

CASSELTON, ND (AP) -- Boomer may be a buster: Measuring 3 feet tall at the shoulders and 7 feet long from nose to destructive wagging tail, he might be the world's tallest living dog.

Owner Caryn Weber said her 3-year-old Landseer Newfoundland keeps all four paws on the floor when he drinks from the kitchen faucet in her family's eastern North Dakota farm house.

Boomer stares into car windows eye to eye with drivers. A 20-pound bag of dry dog food lasts the 180-pound canine a couple of weeks.

Weber said her furry black and white dog "comes into the house and his tail is so high everything gets knocked around."

5. Dawgs .... we LOVE dawgs here. The bigger the better.
Ours are small compared that that guy, though! Our two, in total, are only 150 lbs.

6. Gorgeous dog, but is that size healthy for the breed?
In South Africa we have a big breed called Boerbuls which are sometimes enormous (not just tall but muscular). I've seen individuals that are at least as tall as this dog and must weigh something like 150kg (330 lbs). The sad thing is, the biggest members of the breed are highly likely to suffer from problems like hip dysplasia, knee problems and so on in mid-life. I've known about 8 boerbuls of which 4 had hip and knee issues. If you look at average life expectancies for different breeds, small dogs dominate the 15+ range. Species body plans have an optimal range and despite appearances, all dogs really belong to one species and share an underlying body plan. So I can't help wondering when I see huge dogs like this whether they don't suffer complications because of their size.

12. Yep.
Guilty as charged. The little black and white passed away over a year ago. We have a new little black and white girl now.

13. I have two pugs
and I have to say they totally changed my mind about toy breeds. Alongside Labs, they're my favourite breed. They've got buckets of personailty.
