Gross: Michael Vick to produce and star in reality TV show
Michael Vick To Star In Reality TV ShowMichael Vick To Star In Reality TV Show

In a move that seemed unthinkable just months ago, Michael Vick has been signed to star in his own reality TV series.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback who was recently reinstated into the National Football League after his prison stint for running a dog-fighting ring, is partnering with BET for what is called an eight-part docu-series.

*snip*

In a statement released today, Vick said: “This show can be a blueprint for so many kids. I want to show that if they have a fall from grace, this is how they can turn it around. We want this to be a story of hope."

One thing Vick did not say, however, is anything about donating a portion of his TV show profits to animal charities. He’s $20 million in debt and his sorry-about-the-dog thing comeback tour apparently does not involve financial contributions to help animal organizations.

I hope the National Geographic Channel simultaneously runs a rerun of the documentary they did on the dogs who were rehabilitated after suffering a nightmarish existence at the hands of Vick and Co.

He's sorry he got caught, sorry he had to go to jail, sorry he did a bad thing. He's not sorry for the dogs. He could give half a shit about what he did to those dogs.

8. So, your point is?
He was tried, convicted, and sentenced for those crimes. He served out his sentence. There was nothing legally required of him to show remorse, or apologize for his action. He is now free to pursue his career and live out his life without interference from the legal authorities. Get over it.

As for "get over it"...fuck off. Violent crims like this are, for some of us, not to be "gotten over" should an individual choose not to.

18. if he's 20 million in debt an honest man pays his bills before giving someone elses $ to charity
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 07:14 PM by pitohui
i don't get this argument:
One thing Vick did not say, however, is anything about donating a portion of his TV show profits to animal charities. He’s $20 million in debt and his sorry-about-the-dog thing comeback tour apparently does not involve financial contributions to help animal organizations

there is nothing good or noble about buying goodwill w. someone else's money

if he's that far in debt he should take the $$$ he is earning to pay his creditors -- not tell his creditors "too bad so sad it's more important for me to buy goodwill from the animal lovers than to pay you what i said"

i thought he already had obligations to assist in animal welfare, as part of his sentence/parole

let him discharge the debts he already has before asking him to "buy" goodwill which can't really be purchased anyway -- those who will never forgive will never forgive even if he is beggared forever so why try to please those who will never be pleased?

we legally fight humans, so there has to be some understanding that it doesn't make a man a sociopath if he scratches his head and wonders why it's wrong to fight dogs or birds...there's a logic leap there and it doesn't make a man a sociopath if he doesn't make the same leap of logic as flvegan for example -- i wouldn't fight a dog or a bird but i've bet on men fighting, so i don't see how i can judge too harshly -- yah vick is sorry he got caught but the only reason we're looking down on him is because he got caught doing something that used to be considered perfectly OK and then the world changed and he didn't take the hint fast enough to get out of the business (i have it on good authority he was warned that there was a federal investigation) -- if he was training men to fight we'd be applauding him (at least if his fighters won, we would) -- "our" morality as a society is suspect here, not just vick's morality

it isn't really about dogs, it's about going for the cheap dazzle, look cool shiny object over there!

28. Even If He's Making the League Minimum, He's Making Enough To Molify His Creditors
League minimum for a rookie as of 2007 was $285,000. I don't know exactly what Vick's getting paid, and I don't know if his salary takes his previous years in the NFL into consideration, but I'm sure he's making more than the league minimum. Proportionately, I know MANY middle class people who are in debt to a far greater extent than Michael Vick.

Yes, he should pay off his creditors. But there is no reason that his fans should accept that he can also maintain his previous high-roller lifestyle.

The man has been granted a second chance after committing heinous acts. He should ACT like a man who was given a second chance.

41. Polanski needs to face the California Justice system
for the crime he is accused of committing. Vick is free to pursue his career having served his sentence. Need it any clearer.

34. Nice broad stroke there. Polanski needs to serve his sentence
and some of the applause or excuses made because of his "great works" make me want to hurl.

So there.

Vick served his minimal time for a horrible crime. Part of rebuilding his reputation should be to show some humility. Going on TV and airing his "pity party" isn't part of that. Why doesn't he get in the gym, on the field, win some games, and use his spare time to help animals and other innocent beings to pay penance, rather than using that time to strike TV deals and cry into the camera? Pathetic.

Instead of attacking the Polanski apologists, maybe you should take a look in the mirror.

23. As One Of His Few (Reluctant) Defenders...
...he'll lose me with this. Yes, the man served his time. Yes, I believe he should be allowed to play professional football again. But part of being given a second chance should include the humility to accept how lucky you are that someone offered you that chance. Becoming a media whore is not a great way to show people that you've learned from your mistakes and have become a better person...even if you claim your new media endeavor is ABOUT learning from your mistakes.

I realize the man's in debt. But he should be laying very low and thanking his lucky stars, not trying to milk his notoriety for every cent.

25. I understand why some might feel that way
but as stated before he is a free man. What we think he should be or should not be doing is a matter of opinion. It does not change the fact that he served his time and legally he owes society not a darn thing. Personally I do not care if he does a dozen reality shows. As far as I am concern he has paid his debt to society. As far as his money debt well the man has a right to work. Some may feel that what he is doing is tacky and all but what he is doing is not against the law. I do not think he should spend the rest of his life trying to please others in regards to this situation, because nothing he does is ever going to be good enough for some people. Nothing short of him dying at least.

I do understand what you are saying.

I have to think that it's possible after sitting in jail for a couple of years and going bankrupt and losing the fortune you amassed, perhaps you think about life a bit.

I just hope he does something positive with the show... otherwise this is going to be one big trainwreck....
