FIRST and foremost. It will take a long time to build it all properly. I see lots of jobs for everyone if only we can commit.

Spend money to ensure free fair an open elections. Spend money to improve the health, education, and well being of a nation. Any nation. Even our own...

8. We should fix us first...
Then we will be in a better position to help others. We need to tighten the purse strings in many regards, imho.

11. I think our first priority should be to stop tearing other nations down
Such as our many decades of interference in Latin America.

12. Yes, absolutely. We shouldn't do it alone and the focus should be human rights, but...
Yes, we should do it. Done right (as it was in Germany & Japan) it can save lives and create allies. Had it been done in Palestine or Lebanon, there'd be fewer wars and more people advancing human rights in the Muslim world.

I think you get my point: Why is it that spending money for Iraq and Afghanistan does not have to be budget neutral, but spending money for the betterment of Americans does? Why is the public option subject to a budgetary litmus test, but money for nation building Iraq and Afghanistan isn't?

16. Those are the questions that can drive a caring American crazy.
Really, though, we know the answers. They are just not palatable to us citizens who still believe in democracy.
