Hungry soldiers
told to buy pizza

By Campbell Gunn

British soldiers in Iraq were told to buy pizzas — because the Army had no food for them.
The shocking revelation was made in an e-mail home from a squaddie in Basra.
Now his complaint has been taken up by his MP, SNP leader Alex Salmond, who accuses the Government of complacency and failing in its duty of care.
The soldier’s e-mail claimed that when he and his colleagues found there was no food available they were told to go out and buy pizzas and claim back the cost.
“Now we have been told we are getting no claims,” he went on, “so basically the Army are saying we need to fend for ourselves.
“We miss quite a lot of meals because we are out on patrol.”
The soldier also complains about the state of their equipment.
“When we came out, nearly everyone in the company got sore feet from the poor quality Army boots.
Feet in tatters
“We were told that to get a new, better pair we would have to get a medical note.
“Some of the boys are having to walk about with their feet in tatters and others have had to splash out more than $200 on new ones.

3. Holy god, sister, what more must our soldiers -
regardless of nationality - be asked to endure? Or the Iraqi children? Or their parents? George W. Bush should be impeached, indicted, and imprisoned - and I hope he goes straight to hell.

7. This administration and its radical wingnuts sure do support the troops. Ah..huh.....
Despicable. I have no words for the depth of my contempt. George Bush betrays the troops. On purpose.

9. Bush and Blair are both responsible for this sorry state
the troops they send to die or be maimed are in. They are expected to buy their own food? They lack even the most basic necessities, and yet our men and women are being asked to stay longer, go back sooner, and then mistreated by their government if they make it home.

I'm so furious, it's hard to type, because my hands are shaking too much. All of this carnage, this bloodshed, the destruction of a country, and the Iraqis who had done nothing to us, all of this is being pushed by the most monstrously corrupt and arrogant administration in U.S. history.

I realize that this report concerns British troops, but there is no doubt that they would not be in this position had not Bush's lap-dog been willing to go along with everything Bush asked him to do. Ok, you ignorant piece of shit freepers, and right-wing arm chair warriors, keep on telling us how unpatriotic we are because we want our troops home safely, and our country given the ability to heal.

God only knows that we will never be able to repay the horrific karmic debt we have incurred by the viciousness of our treatment of innocent Iraqi citizens. This is all just too mind blowing, too terrible to absorb, how far we've fallen as a country since the treasonous SCOTUS assisted Bush in stealing the election in 2000. This is just all too much. Great Britain and the U.S. are both committing terrible, terrible crimes against both their own citizens, and the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.

10. It makes me wonder what we're NOT hearing, and at the risk of
upsetting you further, read this if you're up to it; it's about info being supressed.

11. Dear Sister, as greatly as these things upset me
I feel a moral obligation to keep informed of these abuses. How can I claim, as a citizen sitting safely in my home, to be so offended by the ongoing cruelties and atrocities being committed in my name, that I am willing to spare myself even the knowledge of these events, while others are suffering the real consequences?

One of the reasons I try to read each of your posts, babylonsister, is that your anguish for the suffering on both sides is quite obvious. You are among many who have been absolutely unrelenting in bringing important news to our attention. I worry sometimes about what a terrible toll this must be taking on you. Nobody with your compassion, and dedication, can continue to ferret out the truth, and bring it to our attention, without becoming demoralized in your endeavors.

For myself, I can only read all I can of the truth, and tell every one of my family members, and friends, what's going on, and to beg that they, in turn, pass on the truth. I am reconciled to being upset. It is nothing less than my responsibility as a citizen of the country who is causing such pain to the rest of the world. I would rather be upset, and anguished, yet armed with enough knowledge to persuade others to fight peacefully, at the polls, back against the barbarians now in charge of our government, than to slink away, silent, and remain willfully ignorant of the truth.

I give silent thanks, and many, many good thoughts to you, among others, babylonsister, for your efforts to spread the truth, and the knowledge of what's happening. I wish it were in my power to reward you, but since it's not, know that my best thoughts, and best wishes, are sent to you every day. Keep up the good work, and thanks.

12. Wow. Thank you. I post because I can and because this is one way
I can spread the word of what's going on.
Thanks for your appreciation; I'm speechless, for once!

And show your own outrage-let it all hang out! That's what we should all be doing.
