Who's Hiring the Top Engineering Students out of College?
I received my latest copy of the quarterly magazine from The National Engineering Honor Society and a trend that I had noticed over the last year or two is now depressing; there are 7 total advertisements for graduate applicants. If you are smart enough to be an honors engineering graduate, you're smart enough to know there is no future in it.

To give credit to those that even give lip service to hiring:
1. Applied Physics Lab
2. CNA
3. Lockheed Martin
4. MIT Licoln Lab
5. MITRE
6. NSA
7. Sandia National Lab (actually run by Lockheed Martin)

Who is notably missing from the advertisements (these are the advertisers I always expected in the publication from memory,):
. Boeing,
. Texas Instruments,
. IBM,
. Navy (a number of their labs advertised independently),
. CIA,
. FBI,
. Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
. NASA,

There has been a significant uptick in activity at Boeing Enterprise Staffing System ...

Most are engineering related (I am a lowly tech ...)

4. As a Registered Professional Engineer with 36 years experience
I think engineering is a great career, but if I had it to do over again, I'd want to fail at sports or entertainment first. (just kidding) When I graduated in 1972, the job market for engineers was pretty bad. I delivered pizza and sold men's clothes for a while before I landed a real job. The market is cyclical so hang in there.

I saw an interesting article in Crains a couple of years ago where a graduate with a BS degree in EE got her best offer from an investment banking firm. The firm's comment was they can teach investment banking, but they can't teach the intelligence, mental discipline and work ethic it takes to get a degree in engineeing, especially EE.
