"Billions in US aid never reached Pakistan army

By KATHY GANNON (AP) – 3 hours ago

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The United States has long suspected that much of the billions of dollars it has sent Pakistan to battle militants has been diverted to the domestic economy and other causes, such as fighting India.

Now the scope and longevity of the misuse is becoming clear: Between 2002 and 2008, while al-Qaida regrouped, only $500 million of the $6.6 billion in American aid actually made it to the Pakistani military, two army generals tell The Associated Press."

1. Pretty much all foreign aid is like that, unfortunately.

2. They're probably just making footballs out of it.
Junior didn't do such a good job at keeping the books. I have to suspect Lord Cheney funneled a few - nay, more than a few - billions off for secret operations just like Iran/Contra.

4. And into his or crony pockets
It seems like every dollar spent on these wars eventually ends up in the pockets of someone he knows.

7. I wonder where the $9B on those pallets ended up? Treasury could track serial numbers ...but hasn't
It was so obvious that the money would be stolen and we have never heard a call for an audit of the serial numbers.

8. That was $12B actually
The $9B was mis-allocated funds for assorted projects in Iraq, mostly military. The $12B on pallets was raw cash was basically tossed around like confetti. Millions were handed out to contractors and aides, Iraqi ministers, and probably far more stolen, since a lot of the money was stored in unsecured locations - such as in duffel bags under desks.

The official explanation from Paul Bremer is "Oops". No. Really.

9. Stop the pipeline of money going there, and bring those troops home
too.

Instead of billions in foreign aid, use those dollars for 'domestic aid.'

Close down most if not all of the bases in other countries, sell them the equipment, bring the troops home. It might not be too soon for all those places to start "defending" themselves while the US rebuilds itself.

Oh, and stop reelecting the same weasels to congress time after time. Or stop complaining when they screw us.

10. One Hesitates To Quote Mr. Kipling, Sir, But Sometimes Nothing Else Can Quite Serve The Turn
Now it is not good
For the Christian’s health
To hustle the Aryan brown,
For the Christian riles
And the Aryan smiles
And he wearth the Christian down;
And the end of the fight
Is a tombstone white
With the name of the late deceased,
And the epitaph drear,
“A fool lies here
Who tried to hustle the East."

13. Rep's: Don't look at us. We are not like those tax and spend
liberals in government. Next Issue: Where DID all those billions go? (accusatory tone, of course).
