NBC's SNL had a sick, sick gun shooting skit last Saturday

A little strange this sick skit was on this weekend. Anyone else see the skit? It even had special "blood packs" for added realism. I just was a little sick after the skit.

1. Maybe it was violent video games and rap music.
Or maybe we could blame GM foods?

Do you honestly think a skit on SNL sent this guy over the edge??

5. At least it was last Saturday and not the coming one.
I doubt the shooter was inspired by that. If anything, he (assuming a guy -- it always is) was pissed at something in his own life and/or the way he was treated by some fellow students and took it out the wrong way.

Maybe because I love the Imogen Heap song they used for it.

16. Thanks, I was trying to figure out what the music was.
It's a cool toon, are they a rap or hip hop group? This skit was so rediculous that it was funny! Even my girlfriend laughed, and she's completely anti-violence anything!

I think the Digital Shorts are consistently the funniest thing on SNL lately. Those Lonely Island dudes are very creative.

have anything to do with violence?

10. Oh heck - it's April
I just told my hairdresser the other day that weird things happen in April and that we were due something.

Think about it: Columbine, Waco, Hitler's Birthday, OK City bombing.

It's just April.

11. I recorded the show Saturday but watched it last night
I thought it was taking a poke at a movie or program I've never seen. Perhaps movie makers overuse that form of portraying that narrative. Today, it feels eerie at best. Your posting is on point.

27. I think it was an OC reference...
Last season when Marissa died, they played that song when Ryan was with her body. Like a previous poster said, I think it's a sendup of the over-the-top, soap and prime-time TV violence so common nowadays.

13. I know you're not saying the skit caused the shooter to go off. But it's pretty gross that SNL
considered that a premise for any kind of comedy. I haven't watched that show in years. It just didn't seem that funny to me anymore.

Mental illness, alienation, trauma from, say, poverty, bankruptcy, child abuse.... that kinda crap causes this kind of tragedy. I know you already know that.

23. The skit was hilarious and random.
That describes most of the "SNL Digital Shorts". The shooting + the music (Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap) is a reference to the OC, which made the song famous (or so I've read; been digging Imogen Heap for awhile). Other than that it's just randomness, until the punchline, ie. the note casually predicting exactly how this scene will play out, even though it makes absolutely no sense, lol.

Here's a link to the skit (might not last long, knowing NBC):

24. 8 of The 12 Current Top Grossing Films ......
have violence in their description or rating.

#12 Shooter
#10 Grindhouse
#9 300
#8 The Reaping
#7 Wild Hogs
#6 Pathfinder
#4 Perfect Stranger
#1 Disturbia

Have you taken a look at your TV Guide lately:

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit & Criminal Intent
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation & Miami
NCIS
Criminal Minds
24
Sopranos

And a host of others that are too numerous to name.

I don't think one skit on SNL caused this shooter to go berserk.

on the case.

He was pretty proud of the court condemnation, though. heh

36. I thought it was funny too.
It turned a crime of passion into a real farce, justified or not. I think maybe it was perhaps justified so that Ms Longet did not get off unscathed from what she did. I think she did otherwise.

37. Michael's philosophy as a humorist was that even death was a legitimate source for humor
as EVERYONE was going to die, even the humorist creating the observation.

He suffered from severe migraines and sometimes got through them laughing that he just knew one day his head was going to explode - and it did - an aneurysm. His dark and fatalistic humor was very much who he was and evidently struck a chord in an entire generation and beyond.
