4. Have you used Windows 7 or just attacking it baselessly?
I've been using it for about 8 months now and it's been a pleasure. 3 different systems and none have had any issues. Not only is it stable as hell, but it's fast and has awesome driver support.

10. You still haven't answered my question.
Have you actually spent time with Windows 7? If so, what are your actual complaints? I've been using it for the better portion of a year and haven't had a single complaint. It makes for a damn good HTPC as well. I have 14 years of IT experience and have spent a decent amount of time with every major OS out there and so far, Windows 7 has provided the best overall experience for me.

11. I don't care... I'm just sick of Microsoft constantly churning the consumers to sell a "new" O/S
when we really don't need one.

This is just a way to milk consumers and force them to buy new PC's as well.

Windows XP is perfectly fine for 99.9999% of users.

Time to start using open source O/S's and apps and stop paying MS for software.

13. So the answer is that you haven't used it and you're talking out of your ass.
XP may be fine for 99% of users and they're welcome to stay with XP. No one is forcing them to upgrade. The primary reason I'm using Windows 7 is because I got it for free, but I'm damn glad I've got it now. If people are content with their hardware and software, that's fine. I'm a gamer, so DX11 is important to me. I also like that it's faster and more stable than Vista and is a hell of a lot more capable than XP.

8. 'magin that ... monopolistic manipulation of the closed source peripherals market
The only reason "pay to play" OS have their market share is due to the "wink" agreement to keep drivers secret and unavailable to Linux.

Cause everybody knows on a level playing field Linux is "all that (and more secure)" and it's free.

12. same here
that said, vista sucked. Win 7 is quite good. Along with the XP mode feature, the XP->WIN7 upgrade should be apinless. I have it up on a netbook, a desktop, and a test system, and they are all doing just fine, thanks. The UI changes are actually pretty slick, the reliability is great, and the 'minor adjustments' to the horrid vista UAC mean that you can actually leave UAC on, have a usable system, and never have to click more than once to approve changes.

7. Did you know that...
....the new managing director of the FCC is a former long-time Microsoft employee--and
was a speechwriter and right-hand man for Bill Gates?

I think that's pretty interesting.

14. The shit is about to hit the fan. BIG TIME!
While the beta-testers have had, for a Microsoft product anyway, surprisingly easy time so far, don't let them fool you.

Unless you already have Vista installed or know your way around a computer really well, upgrading to Win7 will be a nightmare. Or you can buy a brand new computer, at which point a you might be better off with a new Mac.

Do yourself a favor. Avoid Windows 7.
