I'd like to see this asshat "Scott" call in to Mike Malloy's show.

1. I consider all of his RW guests to be a waste of my time.

3. I agree and feel the same way about taking phone calls from right wingers
as Ed Schultz and Stephanie and so many liberal hosts do - just a waste of time as there's nothing to learn from them. I, usually, just turn the volume down while they are on or switch the station.

6. That's the way Hartmann is
He goes out of his way to bring wingnuts on the show, as he feels that kind of conflict makes for better radio. And I like that he's civil. Quite frankly, I wish we had more civility in ideological debates.

Unfortunately, his guests are usually think tank puppets who memorize their talking points. Hartmann needs to stop hitting up the Heritage Foundation and the Ayn Randers, as these people are quite dull.

I usually don't mind wingnuts on liberal shows. Heck, the only reason worth listening to Alan Colmes is the hilarious calls he gets from the right-wing lunatics.

As for Malloy, he loses his cool when he gets wingnuts on. It doesn't make him look good. Other hosts, like Schultz, Miller, Rhodes, etc. handle them really well.

2. He thinks he's a great debater but it seems to me he usually comes up on
the losing side. He's too respectful to his opponents and it comes across as being weak. You have to be able to go in for the jugular when needed and, for some reason, he seems unable to do that.

Its an inborn ability that you just can't fake. Like the way that Barney Frank went after that nutbag at the townhall meeting - everybody can't do that.

8. I think he and Rachel are the best progressive voices in media out there right now, but
I agree that he sometimes ends up in weaker position than you would think given his vast knowledge. He sometimes takes more technical or esoteric sidetrips with guests having an opposing viewpoint rather than taking the more devastating, obvious, and strong line of argument. He is a GREAT radio host alone and with bernie sanders but merely a GOOD host when talking with strong debaters who have their talking points down.

OTOH I have to say I like that a conservative friend of mine can listen to Hartmann and find him reasonable and is not put off by histrionics.

5. Mike would hang up on him. That one of my few criticisms of Malloy.
He doesn't have the guts to argue with the wingnuts. He just vanquishes them. At least Thom has the wherewithal to argue with them in a civil manner. We've all been told time and time again that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. It's a hard thing to remember in the heat of an argument, but Thom consistently keeps his cool, presents a better case, and lets the caller save face. Mike, on the other hand, will tell them to get off his show, he doesn't need their nonsense. Seems like a coward's way out to me. It's not really a talk show; it's a podium for the host to espouse his beliefs and only those who agree with him.

I admire Thom and Mike greatly, but would admire Mike a bit more if he'd allow conflicting opinions on and systematically tear down their arguments. Instead, he gets snide and condescending, then cuts their mike. Not the best way to interact, imo.

9. I haven't listened to Sirius in well over a year
but I find it hard to believe they can keep that foul PUMA creature on the air, let alone delay two hours of Thom's show to do so.

If they have a long term contract with her, fine. Put her useless show on at 3:00 in the morning. If she's too old to be awake at that hour to do it, tape it. It's not like she ever says anything of value that requires an actual live airing anyhow.

10. I think he favors the Ghandi approach.
Thom is really a kind, kind man and he probably wouldn't want to be as hard on these creeps as perhaps you and I might be.
