Republican presidential hopeful Thompson: Making money part of Jewish tradition
WASHINGTON - Former Wisconsin governor and Republican presidential hopeful Tommy Thompson told Jewish activists Monday that making money is "part of the Jewish tradition," and something that he applauded.

Speaking to an audience at the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington D.C., Thompson said that, "I'm in the private sector and for the first time in my life I'm earning money. You know that's sort of part of the Jewish tradition and I do not find anything wrong with that."

Thompson later apologized for the comments that had caused a stir in the audience, saying that he had meant it as a compliment, and had only wanted to highlight the "accomplishments" of the Jewish religion.

You get to have a "tradition" only if you marshal enough resources to keep it going........

Tommy, sweetie, that's the excuse they give when they kill us.

Would have loved to have a mike and a camera on that audience when he said it.

On edit: Making money is a religious accomplishment?

22. maybe
<On edit: Making money is a religious accomplishment?<

Depends on what you do with that money. If you keep it or spend it only to enrich yourself, no. If you keep only enough to maintain a modest lifestyle and give the rest away to feed, house, clothe and educate others who have not been as blessed, then money can be a part of expressing your faith.

But I don't think that's what Tommy had in mind.

46. There's a heavy weight of history in the aspersion.
Jews became merchants and moneylenders because they weren't allowed to own land. Or belong to Christian guilds. It wasn't a trade of choice but of discriminatory laws. To insult people for being almost the only thing they were allowed to be........?

Yes, the major accomplishment of the Jewish religion must be the ability to make money hand over fist. Geez, Tommy--even your apology sucked.

Hope they had some good kugel or plenty of schnapps handy beforehand.

BTW...thank you for the Jean Sheppard reference. He grew up around Chicago and I used to listen to him every afternoon in the 70's. The man would have looked at these times and figured he'd stepped through the his worst nightmares.

Cheers...

26. Aaaaand....that's the game for Tommy Thompson!
What kind of a lovely parting gift to we have for the former governor and Bush shill?

Why, it's Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat!

A year's supply of Turtle Wax, to give your car that new sheen!

And a copy of our home game "I Wanna Be President but I'm an Idiot!"

We'd like to thank Tommy for playing, and thank you, our studio audience, for putting up with these nitwits.
See 'ya next time!

27. How about Friday night ham?
I knew a Jewish doctor who said his mom fixed a ham for Friday night sometimes. This is because the guy is a doctor and they knew not to eat pork in the old days for health reasons. They could get trichinosis which is a parasitic worm disease. Nowadays the ham is reasonably safe.

the tracks I got recently. I got them since they need to be confronted, obviously he agrees with them.

(Yep a copy of Henry Ford's piece of crap that actually advances that theory)

So are you one who believes what Mr. Ford wrote and nobody will print any longer in the States?

"The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" has been proven to be a forgery.
It's been used as fodder for a lot of hatred and mass murder.

38. THAT is what left me speechless!
If he said it at a GOP fundraiser or a meeting of conservatives, it would still be offensive ... but it wouldn't surprise me. It would just be the typical Repuke bigotry rearing its ugly head once again.

BUT ... he got up in front of a Jewish audience and said THAT?!? :wow:  :wtf:
