4. Another one to add -- Face in the Crowd
The Manchurian Candidate is an essential film.

12. I still like a DVD for the special features.
Plus the chance to repeat certain scenes.

5. Netflix has all 3 of those movies and I've placed them in my queue.
They also have "A Face in the Crowd".

Netflix has been great for me. For $10.99 I have available thousands of movies and documentaries and tv series on Netflix streaming and they look great even on my 50" plasma. As well I get 3 Blu-ray dvds each week and they've always had what I've wanted.

6. Done and thanks.
LOVES me some Netflix.

Btw, Netflix just sent me 4 coupons for a free one-month trial. During the free trial, you can order as many at a time that they will allow (9?). Then, if you decide not to sign up, you just cancel. If you do decide to sign up, you can cut the # back down to the more affordable range. Anyway, if anyone's interested, PM me with your address and I'll mail one to you.

7. Netflix is a blessing for film freaks.
I've caught up with a bunch of film and TV series I missed the first time around.

8. Out of 100's of searches,
I think there have only been like 3 that were not available. However, I'm watching movies and series that they NEVER EVER play on cable. (Example: From the BBC - "Yes, Minister" and "Good Neighbors." Both of these were available on Instant Que.) I also love the ability to keep the DVD's as long as I need to. I have the Godfather I & II on Blueray as we speak (er, type).

10. There are some odd omissions;
however, on the whole, it would take a life time to run the entire selection.

Another thing I like is I can take a film or series out for a test run. If I like it, I add it to the collection. Very handy that.

Also get to check out the stinkers without much pain or cost. Was it as bad as everyone said? Yup :puke:

Next up for us is the HBO Kings.

If you like documentaries, give the PBS series The American Experience a try.

9. We stopped having broadcast teevee when it was switched to
digital in Feb in our area. Netflix is our friend.

Also, our public library has a huge selection of tapes and DVDs. Even though we live in a small community, we have a new library which is quite nice.

Feom time to time in gatherings of relatives we get to discuss the virtues of a socialist library, police and fire departments, etc. It's all good.

16. My favorite political film: THE BEST MAN (1964)
Great script by Gore Vidal (who, in his latest rantings, seems to have lost his mind). A fantastic performance by Lee Tracy — one of my favorite actors from the pre-code era who here plays a Harry Truman type ex-Pres.

Unfortunately, not on DVD yet.

Gore Vidal adapted his biting and bitter political satire from his hit Broadway play. Franklin J. Schaffner directed and Haskell Wexler provided the sharp-edged cinematography. The story concerns the political back-biting and smear politics involved in a presidential election year scramble by potential presidential party nominees. Lee Tracy (in an Oscar-nominated performance and his final screen role) is Art Hockstader, a dying president who refuses to throw his support behind any of his party's presidential hopefuls. Hoping to get the nod as the party's presidential candidate is liberal do-gooder William Russell (Henry Fonda). His wife Alice (Margaret Leighton) wants to get a divorce from Russell but is delaying the divorce proceedings until after the party convention. Opposing Russell for the nomination is Joe Cantwell (Cliff Robertson), a slick and unscrupulous political monster who will use any bit of dirt to get ahead in the party. When he discovers that Russell once suffered from mental problems, he threatens to use it against him. Russell then finds out that Cantwell once had a homosexual relationship. Russell, who abhors smear politics, now has to decide whether to use the information against Cantwell or bury the secret and risk losing the nomination.

19. Haven't seen the first two, but I've seen The Manchurian Candidate
several times. Great movie, and Angela Landsbury scares the crap out of me in her role.
