Warning to gays: Religious Right going to stop being so darn nice
If you have followed what Religious Right leaders have been saying about gay people for, oh, the past 30 years, you’d be stunned to learn that Religious Right leaders say the key to resisting the “homosexual extremist movement” is to stop being so nice and polite when it comes to the gays.

About 100 activists at the How to Take Back America conference attended the workshop on “How to Counter the Homosexual Extremist Movement.” Workshop speakers Matt Barber and Brian Camenker urged people to be loud rabble-rousers when opposing the teaching of tolerance or sex ed in public schools. They said not to worry about being nice or polite or liked, but to push God’s anti-gay agenda forcefully. “Christ wasn’t about being nice,” said Barber. Camenker bragged about having once sent two congregations to scream outside a targeted legislator’s home.

The workshop was largely a parade of horror stories about gay activists using the schools to recruit children and undermine the values taught by conservative Christian parent an exhortation for people to tell the “truth” about “homosexual extremists.”

Barber employed Nazi imagery, with gay propaganda “goose-stepping along” and “trampling” anyone who disagrees. He also strung together the most adjectives I’ve yet heard applied all at once to President Obama, declaring that “this president is a secular humanist, a radical socialist moral relativist.”

Workshop MC Jayne Schindler, from Eagle Forum’s Colorado chapter, complained about the influence of gay-rights activists in the state, which she and others attributed to the influence of gay businessman and activist Tim Gill. Another questioner complained about transgender activism in the state, and claimed that high school guys thought it was great to be able to go into girls’ bathrooms by saying they were getting in touch with their feminine side.

There was some small disagreement about how much people should rely on religious arguments in the public sphere, with Matt Barber urging people to focus on the “ick” factor around gay sex and on claims that homosexuality is a health threat, which he called the movment’s “Achilles heel.”

Funny, I can't remember anything. Must be because I don't know the Bible, huh?

37. well he said he was Gay

He said that when you see a person who is without a home, or is hungry there you see him.

By application he was saying wherever you find those oppressed by the inhumanity of man you will find him, i.e. when you see a Gay person feeling the pain of hatred you can see him.

9. Well he wasn't nice with the Saducees

The Saducees were the ones that ran the temple and profited from the infamous money changing tables.

They were the people in power who compromised with the military might of the Roman Empire to enhance their own personal position.

Later they conspired with the Romans to have Jesus killed.

By the time the New Testament was written the temple was gone and so were the Saducees.

Now who does the Saducees remind you of?

Edited on Sat Sep-26-09 06:54 PM by RKP5637
These people are so evil, they, are the devil in disguise. I don't see why more don't call them out for what they are... Use the God word in America and many give you a free pass no matter what BS you sling. Disgusting! Too bad Reagan ended the state hospitals and now these people are on the loose. These people make America a joke. They remind me of the KKK reborn!!! And the likes of Fox News, for example, is so pleased to make money off of them... I resent being forced to have Fox News on my cable.

54. Figures.
You know, I've had it. I just told off an older friend who occasionally sends near right-wing emails, you know support the troops yada yada. I've let it slid because they weren't that bad. Today, I get pictures of "A tea party" with all those conservative assholes. They toss in a token black conservative in the pictures I notice--just to prove they aren't racist you understand, a black face or so in all that sea of white.

I saw NO log cabin repuke type photos, no doubt, because these people believe, devoutly, that Gay people are going to burn in hell.

Sick, sick sick way to think, sick way to feel, sick way to express faith in ANY fucking thing--celebrating the eternal torture of a human being. They aren't nice. They've never been nice. They're disgusting motherfuckers who have caused, and continue to cause incredible damage to society. They know neither real love of others, nor true enlightened faith, nor the courage of progressive change or even have the ability to challenge what is wrong. They hide behind bizzare sexual obsessions and dim and distorted definitions of morality. They have a damaged ego-in-a-loop, one that never allows genuine altrulism. They are unable to even imagine peace on earth, no matter what their little decorations say at Christmas. In fact, they don't WANT peace, not in any way I can see. They live for dissension and what they love, if you want to call it that, is strive and war and hate and division--any division. Probably constantly creating an 'other' is the only way they have of individuation. Shit.

Somehow, these sociopaths (yes they are; oh yes they are)Have gained far too much support from people who should know better. People who don't want to think, and are afraid to feel.

56. Gee, how much more 'not nice' can they get, hope it backfires like it did at a local park here
Edited on Sat Sep-26-09 11:44 PM by ShadowLiberal
Lets see here, when you already call gays an abomination, think it's ok to do hate crimes against gays (I mean what else can you conclude by their opposition to including gays as a group protected by hate crimes), and treat gays like a pariah how much less 'nice' can you get?

The religious right would be wise to observe that in the media age being too cruel and mean can blow up in your face. A few years ago in my area there was a group of antigay people who ended up making their side looking really bad in the news. You see there was a public park where a church had paid money years ago to put a big statue of the ten commandments. So the antigay people wanted to put up statues saying some really horrible stuff about gay people, stuff so awful they even disgusted local churches who didn't favor stuff like gay marriage. The antigay people sued and got a court to rule that the park had to allow all speech in the statues or none. So then the church willingly moved it's statue of the ten commandments onto their own property so the park wouldn't have to let others put up statues saying really hateful things. So in the end lots of locals were really disgusted by the antigay bigots, and the antigay bigots failed to accomplish anything meaningful, except ironically pushing religion out of public parks in the area.

59. Agreed
I agree.
Its better to be for something than against something.
If people promoted heterosexuality and then just didn't worry about those that weren't on board then they might be alot more respectable. It's their tendency to play God and punish those that don't agree and do something different that gives them an ugly face. Sort of like wanting to rid society of pizza eaters because you personally think people should eat steak.
