Woman in Embryo Mix-Up Gives Birth to Boy
(CNN) -- A woman who had the wrong embryo implanted in her gave birth to a baby boy Friday, according to a statement from the couple.

"Our family is deeply grateful for the support and prayers of so many people from around the world," the statement said. "We also would like to thank the medical professionals who provided superior care and treatment throughout the pregnancy and delivery."

"Our family is going through a very difficult time and requests privacy in the days ahead."

The couple said a fertility clinic implanted another couple's embryo into Carolyn Savage's uterus -- in essence, she became an unwitting surrogate for another family.

Ten days after the procedure in February, they received a call from the clinic's doctor: "Carolyn is pregnant, but we transferred the wrong embryos."

"I don't think I've ever cried so much in my life," Savage said. "It was such a nightmare and, in a way, I felt violated."

10. "HEY..Look at ME".. then "leave me alone"
If they wanted privacy, why not keep the "story" between immediate family, the doctor and the other family?

3. So now what?
Other than suing the socks off of this clinic ( which will probably happen) what is this woman going to do? Keep the child, return him to his biological parents?

Maybe this is answered in the ariticle but the page wouldn't load for me.

4. They are giving the child to his bio parents
and are looking at a surrogate for their next baby, if possible. i'm guessing the clinic is paying for all of that and more. She can't physically have another child, apparently.

6. Hope it all works out
for her and her family. What a fiasco.

I would think that the embryos would be labeled several different ways with numbers, names, color coding, bar codes to the point of redundancy to avoid anything like this from happening. Guess not.

14. I presume they are frozen in liquid nitrogen in a small container.
They'd have to be labeled, but I sincerely doubt "numbers, names, color coding, bar codes..." would all fit on the label.

7. She already has 3 kids...
Why are health care resources (read $$$$$) being spent for this woman to continue to become impregnated. Curious to know how much of the tab her insurance company picked up.

13. My guess is she spend her money to pay for it.
I doubt fertility treatments like IVF are covered by insurance.

15. IVF is rarely covered by insurance
So she likely paid for everything herself.
The reason she was trying to become pregnant again after 3 kids is she had leftover embryos from her previous IVF pregnancy. She wanted to use up all her embryos rather then destroy them or leave them frozen.
