Suicide Not Ruled Out For Dead Census Worker; He Was In Contact With The Ground
Suicide Not Ruled Out For Dead Census Worker; He Was In Contact With The Ground

I’ve got some more detail for you on the case of the Bill Sparkman, the U.S. census worker who was found dead of hanging, reportedly with the word “fed” scrawled on his chest:

1) Kentucky state police have not ruled out the possibility that the death was a suicide or even that it was accidental, according to police spokesman Don Trosper.

2) His death has been ruled “asphyxia,” Trosper said in an interview. “There was a rope around his neck. It was attached to a tree,” Trosper continued, adding this intriguing detail: “He was in contact with the ground.”

That raises the possibility that the cause of death was not hanging. Asked if this were possible, Trosper said: “Nothing is being ruled out.”

3) Trosper said the initial AP story on the death contains “flaws and errors.” That means it’s possible that the AP’s claim, based on an anonymous source, that he had the word “fed” scrawled on his chest could be false. Asked if that were the case, Trosper declined to comment.

So that’s where we are. Much more from Zachary Roth in his very useful rundown on where the case stands. \

4. The AP's source was from the FBI.
And now we're hearing something different from local law enforcement.

Very interesting.

16. No. It was "An anonymous law enforcement official told the AP..."
"Investigators have said little about the case. The law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the case and requested anonymity, said Wednesday the man was found hanging from a tree with the word “fed” written on his chest. The official did not say what type of instrument was used to write the word."

17. Sorry. It gets a bit confusing. The AP author was on Rachel's show last night...
...and I believe he mentioned the contact was "federal law enforcement". You are correct that I made the assumption that was FBI and not some other agency.

9. I read many of the comments on www.topix.com regarding his death.
These were comments from more than a week ago when this was not a national news item. A few of the commenters on that site mentioned that rather than the word FED written on his chest, there was something taped to his body. At least one of the commenters seemed to suggest that it might have been some kind of manifesto. It does seem as if the initial story was rushed out.

10. His feet were in contact with the ground? Nope, that would have been done after he died.
I work with suicidal men, women and adolescents and those who have survived an attempt will tell you that as soon as they realized they were dying they fought to live. If his feet were in contact with the ground he would have saved himself.

This story is absolute bullshit.

15. I have seen suicides involving hanging where the victim was touching the ground.
It is quite possible to attempt to save yourself only to black out and die, especially if the rope, cord, etc. doesn't automatically loosen when weight is taken off the system. Look at the cases of erotic asphyxiation those accidental deaths in and of themselves prove that suicide can't be automatically ruled out.

13. Very interesting
I am still in observation mode.

Note: do you know how difficult it would be to try and commit suicide with your toes still able to touch the ground? That would take some damn fortitude...your natural reflexes to live would be powerful. jus saying

14. Man, how long does an autopsy take
We'll know soon enough.

Unless it's a coverup, in which case we'll never know.

Either way, soon.
