use Anti-ACORN bill against defense co's >>2 DAYS left to HELP Grayson (D-FL) IDENTIFY companies!!
Help Rep. Grayson Find Fraud -- use anti-ACORN law against fraudulent defense contractors!!

http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dC1WUm40dWk4YnJNQl9sNWR6aHRybnc6MA

The House of Representatives just passed a law to prohibit Federal funds from going to organizations that commit fraud against the government, in the form of Section 2 of the 'Defund ACORN Act' (http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h3571/text). Congress has five days to put down a legislative history around this bill to help judges and lawyers interpret the law. This gives us an opportunity to make an impact with a deadline of this Friday (9/25 -- DO THIS NOW!!).

You see, regardless of what you think of ACORN, it is laudable to stop taxpayer money from going to organizations that commit fraud against the government. So as per the bill's text, I'm going to put into the Congressional record a list of organizations who have committed fraud against the government or employs anyone who has.

Now, I'm just one person, and I can't possibly find and list all of the organizations that fit this bill. So I need your help. Please nominate organizations and show me that they need to be in the record. To help, send me the name of the organization and proof in the form of a link to evidence that this organization should be in the Congressional record. I will also need your email address so I can follow-up with you if necessary. The proof you send needs to be easily verifiable, as in credible media reports, legal documents, government data, or otherwise.

An example might work as follows. Let's say that you were nominating 'Blackwater,' the controversial mercenary outfit which showed fraud in its contracts for Iraq in 2005. You could include a link like this one: http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/004964.php.

This link is to a credible news organization which sources its information with easily verifiable documents. You could also link directly to source documents: http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/docs/state-blackwater-audit/?resultpage=7&

You can see the current unverified list here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=t-VRn4ui8brMB_l5dzhtrnw&output=html

To nominate an organization, please fill follow this link to fill out Grayson's handy online form!!

9/22/2009 16:23:48 MERS: From their own site:

MERS was created by the mortgage banking industry to streamline the mortgage process by using electronic commerce to eliminate paper. Our mission is to register every mortgage loan in the United States on the MERS® System.

Beneficiaries of MERS include mortgage originators, servicers, warehouse lenders, wholesale lenders, retail lenders, document custodians, settlement agents, title companies, insurers, investors, county recorders and consumers.

MERS acts as nominee in the county land records for the lender and servicer. Any loan registered on the MERS® System is inoculated against future assignments because MERS remains the nominal mortgagee no matter how many times servicing is traded. MERS as original mortgagee (MOM) is approved by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, FHA and VA, California and Utah Housing Finance Agencies, as well as all of the major Wall Street rating agencies.

Not sure if they have directly received taxpayer money, but they certainly received it through FHA, HUD, Fannie, Freddie and Ginnie. In addition, they've certainly received it through the bank bailouts. http://market-ticker.org/archives/1454-Has-A-MERShole-Opened-Up.html

9/22/2009 16:30:11 BANK OF AMERICA (and it makes me SICK to type their name). There are so many bits of evidence all around the Internet, I'm not sure I can do this justice.

Lending unsecured funds they received in the form of bailout money to TERRORISTS!

Lying to shareholders regarding the merger with Merrill Lynch, INCLUDING under oath to Congress. Why they did not receive an immediate Congressional subpoena, I'll never understand.

9/22/2009 16:34:23 Ben Bernanke, The Federal Reserve

Admittedly, they don't directly get 'taxpayer funding' in the traditional sense, but there is no larger institution that has influence over US taxpayer money; so, I'm including them. There is no bigger threat, no bigger risk to the solvency and sovereignty of the USA than the Federal Reserve. http://market-ticker.org/archives/1457-So-What-About-Credit-Risk,-Bernanke.html

9/22/2009 16:37:33 Hank Paulson.

No further evidence than this 6-minute clip is necessary. While the US Treasury Secretary is not a 'recipient' of taxpayer dollars in the traditional sense, he did receive, and still does receive money from the US taxpayer. http://market-ticker.org/archives/1392-Congress-Where-Are-The-Subpoenas.html

10. Don't miss Grayson on SalonRadio -- only 10 minutes -- discusses Bill of Attainder angle
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/radio/2009/09/23/grayson/index.html

The irony of all of this is that the Congress is attempting to accomplish an unconstitutional act: singling out and punishing ACORN, which is clearly a "bill of attainder" that the Constitution explicitly prohibits -- i.e., an act aimed at punishing a single party without a trial. The only way to overcome that problem is by pretending that the de-funding of ACORN is really about a general policy judgment (that no corrupt organizations should receive federal funding). But the broader they make the law in order to avoid the Constitutional problem, the more it encompasses the large corrupt corporations that own the Congress (and whom they obviously don't want to de-fund). The narrower they make it in order to include only ACORN, the more blatantly unconstitutional it is. Now that they have embraced this general principle that no corrupt organizations should receive federal funding, how is anyone going to justify applying that only to ACORN while continuing to fund the corporations whose fraud and corruption is vastly greater (not to mention established by actual courts of law)?

14. K&R Grayson is in this excellent documentary: "Daylight Robbery - What Happened to the $23billion?"
Daylight Robbery - What Happened to the $23billion?
Panorama investigates claims that as much as $23bn (£11.75bn) may have been lost, stolen or not properly accounted for in Iraq.

When the US goes to war, corporate America goes too.

There are contracts for caterers, tanker drivers, security guards and even interrogators, many of them through companies with links to the White House.

Now more than 70 whistleblower cases threaten to reveal the scandals behind billions of dollars worth of waste, theft and corruption during the Iraq war.

Gagging orders

A total of $23bn (£11.75bn) is under scrutiny.

The US justice department has imposed gagging orders which prevent the real scale of the problem emerging.

But Panorama's Jane Corbin has spoken to some of those involved - with astonishing stories to tell of who got rich and who got burned.

She hears allegations of mismanagement, fraud and waste; tales of contractors chosen for their US government connections without a competitive bidding process; contractors inflating their costs and double counting to increase their profits and billions supposed to be used to rebuild the Iraqi military allegedly ending up in the pockets of some Iraqi government officials.

Even the contract to oversee the expenditure went to a company with no relevant qualification in accounting.

"They are the quintessential war profiteers," said a witness to one of the most notorious companies involved. "They made money out of chaos."

17. According to Commondreams.org
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 01:02 PM by Trillo
The congressional legislation intended to defund ACORN, passed with broad bipartisan support, is written so broadly that it applies to "any organization" that has been charged with breaking federal or state election laws, lobbying disclosure laws, campaign finance laws or filing fraudulent paperwork with any federal or state agency. It also applies to any of the employees, contractors or other folks affiliated with a group charged with any of those things.
http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2009/09/23-0

It doesn't seem to say it's limited only to defense contractors, though they're included. What about Big Pharma?

Pfizer Pleads Guilty to a Felony, Will Pay $2.3 Billion to Settle Fraud Charges
...
Pfizer has agreed to plead guilty to a felony violation of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act for misbranding Bextra with the intent to defraud or mislead. Bextra is an anti-inflammatory drug that Pfizer pulled from the market in 2005. Under the provisions of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, a company must specify the intended uses of a product in its new drug application to FDA.

18. In which court of law did they prove ACORN committed fraud
against the government?

This seems to be an extra bonus since we don't even have to prove they committed fraud. We can just claim it. Add anyone you like to the list.
