Newt Gingrich Ama el Dinero Más que ser Racista

By John Cook

Pudgy philandering futurist Newt Gingrich has always opposed brown people and Pudgy philandering futurist Newt Gingrich has always opposed brown people and their filthy ghetto language, Spanish. Which is why he's launching a Spanish-language political web site, because he might as well try to make some money off these dirty people.

Gingrich Communications has launched The Americano, a bilingual political news site aimed at Latinos that "will seek to make a profit from advertising." It is being run by Sylvia Garcia, his director of Hispanic outreach. To repeat: It is bilingual. You can choose to get your news in English or in Spanish, a choice that Newt Gingrich—the man whose company is launching this web site—believes is corrosive to our culture:

"Allowing bilingualism to continue to grow is very dangerous," Gingrich said in Atlanta. "We should insist on English as a common language. . . . That's what binds us together."

That's from 1995, when Gingrich was defending his massive cuts to bilingual education and support for English-only legislation. As recently as 2007, he repeated the sentiment, saying Spanish people should stop speaking the "language of living in the ghetto," i.e., Spanish, the language of The Americano, of which he is the publisher.

In fact, according to the site's "principles," the editors of The Americano "will..renew our commitment to American values, language and history as the prerequisite for U.S. citizenship." You can read that in Spanish here. So it's basically a web site for illegal immigrants. To yell at them.

LOOK WHO'S MR. BILINGUAL

.... Newt Gingrich apparently assumes Latino communities have very short memories. ....

The new website, which will seek to make a profit from advertising,... ....

It was, after all, the former House Speaker who, in giving a speech to a Republican group in 2007, described bilingual education as teaching "the language of living in a ghetto." He's also mocked the idea of printing government documents in anything but English, and promoted English-only measures.

In 1995, Gingrich said bilingualism poses "long-term dangers to the fabric of our nation" and that "allowing bilingualism to continue to grow is very dangerous."

And earlier this year, it was Gingrich who blasted Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor as a "racist," who should be "forced to withdraw" from consideration for the high court. He added that Sotomayor had to be rejected "if Civil War, suffrage, and Civil Rights are to mean anything."

But now that Republicans are worried about losing the Latino vote for the indefinite future, Gingrich is going to help bring the GOP message to the Latino community? Good luck with that.

2. That, plus all other Rethugs losing the Hispanic vote, although WHY any minority
Edited on Tue Sep-22-09 08:35 PM by UTUSN
should ever been in play for Rethugs is a mystery to me. With Shrub, it was his fractured Spanish that somehow appealed to them, his having grown up in a region where he had contact with them, so he knew that smiling and hugging them goes a LONG WAY. Besides that his brudder speaks actually EXCELLENT Spanish and married a woman from Mexico. There were actually some Hispanics who were so misinformed that they thought that Pickles, pronouced lao-ah in Spanish, was the-woman-from-Mexico-wife in question.

So, the short answer was YES, but also trying to re-coup ground lost with this minority. Actually, they can't. The B.F.E.E. were the only link to Hispanics--going back to the Cuban Exile/CIA community. Most of the other Rethugs are like Grinch who opposed all the issues this group cares about--immigration; English Only; bi-lingualism; social justice and social services.

3. Oh, you just made me think of something...
Didn't Newt just convert to Catholicism, the religion of choice in Mexico?

Maybe I'm thinking of somebody else.

Sylvia Garcia

Sylvia Garcia has been a member of the Gingrich team since 2005. She graduated from the University of Miami in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish language. Mrs. Garcia has over 10 years of Hispanic Media experience and now handles all Spanish-related coverage with Speaker Newt Gingrich. She also handles the www.newt.org/ParaLatinos website which essentially is a Spanish version of www.newt.org that focuses on conservative issues. Mrs. Garcia is based out of our Miami office. She also handles intern recruitment for this area.

9. He's wasting time and money. But that's a GOOD thing.
The Sotomayor hearings slaughtered Hispanic approval of Republics. They've been left with the hardest of the hard-core Cubans and a handful of fascists from other countries. Good luck in south FL, TX, NM, AZ and CA in 2010.

Conversely, we need to keep our eyes open in those states in 2010. If the exit polls don't smell right (again), we need to insist they do it right. They are bastions of electronic voting.
