The media myth that Obama has "sunk in the polls" over the summer:

According to Gallup, Obama's approval rating:

7/27: 52%
8/03: 56%
8/10: 55%
8/17: 53%
8/24: 52%
8/31: 51%
9/07: 51%
9/14: 53%
9/21: 53%

Source: www.gallup.com

So... from the time the "August of Town Hall Hell" began for the President until now.... Nothing has changed with respect to his approval rating.

Even Rasmussen, which traditionally skews (to put it nicely) Republican:

08/01: 50%
09/01: 49%
Today: 49%

The "August of Obama Discontent" was a media-created lie.

Even according to Scott Rasmussen.

The public's view toward Obama has not gone negative at all. In fact, it is defying history by holding steady during a time in a Presidency when it usually falls off greatly.

2. as with anything, it is creating the appearance that his popularity is waning....
but even if it were, it seems to be more with the people who want him to get healthcare done and WITH the public option.... not that people want him to ditch the public option. People elected obama and the dems to friggin get this done... no matter how many of those crazy teabaggers they splash across the screen to make it seem like it's a movement. Most people WANT something done about healthcare... and that includes a public option. If the dems would quit messing around trying to please the republicans and just do whatever they ahve to do to get a true reform and public option through, and didn't pussy foot around with triggers and crap.... people would move on.

7. Favorable breakdown by region - NEast 83%, MWest 63%, West 60%, SOUTH 28%
So is numbers are high in most of the country.

And then quite low in one rather mixed up, confused, and out of touch part of the country.

This is from the Daily Kos Poll

11. 5% vacillation? No, not a big deal. Just for lying liars: our M$M.
And, that drop only happened because they setup the angry meetings and then covered them as the singular issue, calling the bill Obama's when they wanted his ratings to drop, then they stopped calling it Obama-care and quit reporting the change in approval as it rose again.

So, non-readers were fooled and they fell back later. Not a big deal.

The point was about the media talking about the "August Recess Swoon"...
....and claiming that the town hall hysteria was cutting into Obama's approval.

17. I think either way, SOMEBODY is presenting their own frames for this data.
Of course, people arguing either side of the matter have an incentive to pick one date or the other to analyze depending on the point they're trying to make. I was merely responding to the OP, at any rate.

15. First I'll say that right is right and wrong is wrong
regardless of what the polls say about it or the public's opinion of you.

Having put that aside, the OP's data doesn't tell the whole story.

Starting at 7/27, for instance, ignores the data point from a week earlier that had 60/33 approval and the 61/30 number a couple weeks before that (as well as two 64% approval numbers in May and June). It's certainly enough to strike fear into any politician.

When combined with other firms' polling, it's clear that things did, in fact, decline over the summer so "lie" is too strong.

Things appear to be improving slightly however.

19. And?
The last Gallup Figure for July was 60% approval and August ended with 51%.

What would you call it?

The sharper decline (taking all polls into account) really was from mid July to the start of August, but the bleeding certainly continued until about a week ago.

20. why are you showing from end-of-July rather than a longer period
Here is a longer Gallup history.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/gallup-daily-obama-job-approval.aspx

Go back to May - upper 60's. Now, lower 50's. Most would say that is a decline.
