According to a high tech study http://www.nyc.gov/html/om/pdf/2009/NPCC_CRI.pdf commissioned by a concerned Mayor Bloomberg and generously funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, climate change caused by human-created greenhouse gases is threatening the health, livelihood, and security of New Yorkers—especially those who take the subway to work.

The New York City Panel on Climate Change, led by an elite team of NASA scientists and climate experts from Columbia, CUNY and Rutgers, has concluded that unless carbon emissions are drastically reduced all over the world, New York faces dangerous increases in temperature (up to 7.5 degrees), extreme weather (hurricanes and intense storms) and sea level rise (as much as 4.5 feet).

According to the panel’s report, if all nations don’t drastically cut their carbon emissions, then Gotham will suffer in the following ways:

After last November's fake New York Times treatment, lefty political pranksters The Yes Men are back with a fake "Special Climate Edition" of the New York Post. The front page story, "WE'RE SCREWED," covers, in Bizarro-world Post fashion, the catastrophic events which the scientific community expects humanity to endure due to climate change. You can read it all online here, but the culture jammers have also distributed 1 million copies of the print edition city-wide.

The fake Post is timed to coincide with a meeting of world leaders to discuss climate change at the U.N. Tuesday; the Yes Men emphasize that while their edition of the Post is a hoax, all the facts in the tabloid are accurate. Tomorrow they'll be in Stuy Cove Park, just north of East 20th Street on the East River, to demonstrate their post-apocalyptic SurvivaBall, "a self-contained living system—truly, a gated community for one. If you have a SurvivaBall, even if everyone else is dying, at least you can weather all storms." Below, video chronicling the hoax Post distribution, with what looks like an indignant comment from a Post employee.

Oh no, man! According to witnesses, this morning the NYPD detained several volunteers working with the Yes Men to distribute the hoax edition of the New York Post. Photographer Jason Nicholas was at the scene outside News Corp., the Post headquarters, when he observed cops detaining three volunteers who had been handing out copies.

He tells Daily Finance, "They seized the papers that those guys were distributing and took them inside the building. It seemed they were acting in concert with building security because I noticed them talking before and after." Neither the Post nor the NYPD have commented yet on what grounds the papers were seized, but we look forward to some fact-laden, objective reporting about it in tomorrow's Post.

The NYT, they were likely to let one such action go and pretend nothing happened. That's their defining conceit: Anything that wasn't in the Times would have been totally insignificant.

The Post, not so. They're always looking for a lynching.
