DEMOCRATS! This Map Shows Why Democrats Should Pay No Attention to GOP Lawmakers
Edited on Mon Sep-21-09 10:57 AM by berni_mccoy

Only 22% of the Nation's counties voted more Republican in 2008. (map taken from: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/9/21/784599/-Yo,-Pundits!-Heres-Whats-Up-With-the-Republicans )

And these are very low population counties. Looking at these counties, this is going to be less than 10% of the Nation's population voting Republican.

After Republicans have slapped down the hand of brotherhood given to them by Obama and the Democrats, we ought to simply ignore anything they say from this point on. Pass a Health Care Bill with a Public Option. Use Reconciliation if needed in the Senate. And then pass every Democratic initiative needed to put this country back on the right track.

Dems should be emboldened by this. Stop Caving to the b.s. spouted by the GOP. In everywhere but the South the GOP has an 80% disapproval rating and only a 11% approval. (see: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/berni_mccoy/785 )

4. North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi
are a very interesting subset in that map.

Obviously a lot of AA didn't bother to vote in those states before 2008 for them to show up virtually completely white.

6. They aren't
But they are paying attention and going on bended knees to their corporate paymasters.

You might need another chart for that.

7. You're Also Seeing The Obstacle To Decent Health Care Reform
I remain optimistic however if you look at that map...which BTW only shows GOOP increases...not consentrations. Don't underestimate either.

Many of those shaded areas do have Democrats representing them...predominately Blue Dogs in the House. It also includes Arkansas and Louisana...Landrieu and Lincoln...who are facing very tough re-election battles. It's just enough to create problems and headaches.

15. misleading map
A county that went 80% for the Republicans in 2004 and 79% for the Republicans in 2008 would show up as white on this map. This isn't the right map to show how weak the Republicans are.
