Unnecessary Puritanical concern over who consenting adults sleep with...
Edited on Mon Sep-21-09 05:31 AM by MrScorpio
Is too much of a problem in this country.

It's at the heart of why people who don't fit the narrowly defined hetero "norm" find themselves being discriminated against, and many times, in all kinds of peril, mortal and otherwise.

It's at the heart of why ridiculous arguments are proffered that the institution of marriage is dangered by homosexual couples, when legally authorized divorce is extant.

None of the neo-puritans want to discuss the possibility that the people in those broken marriages probably should have never gotten married in the first place.

Rather than being part of the accepted norm, many gays have opted to be part of highly visible gay rights campaign. If that puritanical concern were not the case, gay marriage would be just as unremarkable as straight marriage.

And on the other hand, rabid homophobia has an accepted foothold in the "marketplace of ideas."

Now why I wrote this: I find it amazing that on DU that there is concern by some about how others, who are unlike themselves, choose to mate. And whether or not one should be disgusted about it.

It really doesn't freaking matter.

How one consenting adult chooses to, or is impelled mate because of their sexual orientation, is only a matter for that person and the other consenting adult.

The "Ick" factor is just a way to proffer bullshit and it's pretty damn juvenile.

As a straight male, I refuse to be pigeonholed with the thinking that I need to judge others because of whom they sleep with.

As an addendum, I shouldn't have to remind you that a lot of straight folks are fucking up a storm too, many employing all kinds of alternative practices.

But as long as coercion isn't used and it stays out of the courts, more power to them, I say.

1. Agreed
I find it remarkable that some self proclaimed moral people are concerned about these things and not with the plight of the poor.

4. Of course it matters...
If you take away the hate you take away all that some people have to live for.

5. Hatred and fear are pretty disgusting values to live by
For me, those that do that are people who should be opposed.

6. Sexual morality is a metaphor for sexual economics.
Even those who accept the rules, would rather not have sex and sexual relationships discussed in economic terms as it's too harsh.

Jane needs to protect her reputation so she can "marry well". There is nothing wrong with marrying well, those who don't will surely regret it whether they admit it or not.

Joe cares who has sex with Jane, because Joe has a primal drive to procreate, be certain which child is his, and to keep from supporting or allowing to live the child of a man who has fucked Joe's mate.

Jane cares who has sex with Joe, because other women and children with a claim on him are a threat to her and her children.

Throw disease into the mix, and everyone can go on this ride.

Morality in sex isn't about morality, it's a metaphor for more practical concerns.

And while we don't want our sons falsely accused of rape, and we wax philosophically about everyones freedom to have sex as they wish, a show of hands would quickly reveal that we don't want our daughters (of any age) sucking off five guys on video or otherwise.

7. IMHO, those people who are obsessed with controlling other people's sex lives...
are just plain perverts.
