Nothing Improper (Opinion by Alberto Gonzales)
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 11:07 PM by LiberalFighter
Source: Washington Post - by Alberto Gonzales

My decision some months ago to privately seek the resignations of a small number of U.S. attorneys has erupted into a public firestorm. First and foremost, I appreciate the public service of these fine lawyers and dedicated professionals, each of whom served his or her full four-year term as U.S. attorney. I apologize to them, their families and the thousands of dedicated professionals at the Justice Department for my role in allowing this matter to spin into an undignified Washington spectacle.

What began as a well-intentioned management effort to identify where, among the 93 U.S. attorneys, changes in leadership might benefit the department, and therefore the American people, has become an unintended public controversy.

While I accept responsibility for my role in commissioning this management review process, I want to make some fundamental points abundantly clear.

I know that I did not -- and would not -- ask for the resignation of any U.S. attorney for an improper reason. Furthermore, I have no basis to believe that anyone involved in this process sought the removal of a U.S. attorney for an improper reason.

20. I hope Biden won't be doing any questioning
Gonzales’ response to some questions Thursday seemed to contradict his description of the Geneva Convention in his January 2002 memo.

“I consider the Geneva Convention neither obsolete or quaint,” he said at the hearing, promising to ensure U.S. compliance “with all of its legal obligations in fighting the war on terror.”

Gonzales declined to give a legal opinion on the prisoner abuse, suggesting that he did not want to prejudice a possible criminal case as the attorney general nominee. That led to a 10-minute lecture from Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., on Democrats’ long-standing complaints about Bush nominees’ not directly answering their questions.

“We’re looking for candor, old buddy,” Biden said. “I love you, but you’re not very candid so far.”

10. What the hell is this "privately" business?
What's he saying here, that he went behind the President's back to get U.S. Attorneys to resign without his knowledge or consent? Is that his story? That's crazy talk.

16. This Administration Lies....
... like the rest of us breathe. Too many conflicting attempts at covering up. We have to remember that these people really believe that God works through them; thus, whatever methods they employ are justifiable. They honestly believe they are in the right, and those of us who say different are the traitors. Coupled with their equally strong belief in drowning government, we must realize how dangerous they really are. I say this: hang 'em high.

14. Um..I gotta question...first though I would never hire this guy
to represent me for anything...

Okay back to my question....how stupid is this guy? He is going in front of the committee on Tuesday and he writes an Op-Ed piece the Sunday before the committee..

The committee will and should read this article and pick it apart...I also have to say if this is all he has...this is his defense...he needs to be packing his bags and office right now.

Crickets....(damn what an idiot)

Gonzo convicted on this issue. And if he has such respect for the Constitution, why the fuck does he trash it every chance he gets? Why did he write this piece of tripe anyway? This is the same crap he wrote in the WP about a month ago, if I'm not mistaken. It was bullshit then, it's bullshit now. Why write this two days before he testifies? Is this to set the stage for Tuesday, beginning the long process of ass-coverage that this misadministration excels at? What's the point?

I wonder who wrote it for him? Katie Couric's personal blog authors?
Having seen samples of his writing, this was too clear to have been his personal work. For example, he used complete grammatically correct sentences. For another, every word was spelled correctly.

27. allright, can I just say that when people use phrases like
"During those conversations, to my knowledge, I did not make decisions about who should or should not be asked to resign."

It is soooo telling that he didn't just say:

"During those conversations I did not make decisions about who should or should not be asked to resign."

When every sentence contains one of these 'to my knowledge' escape clauses to tell a lie that is the truth. It stinks to high heavens and people KNOW IT. It is so childish to think that you do not have to be certain about anything, that you can always leave yourself this escape route and we should just accept that as truth...
