The reason Republicans call Obama a Socialist

They can't call him a liberal because George W. Bush doubled the national debt while in office.


Republicans spend money just as much as Democrats when they are in power.

Is George W. Bush a socialist - he enacted the prescription drug benefit?

Is Ronald Reagan a socialist - he enacted the earned income tax credit?


I guess all presidents are socialists if this is the standard.

1. It's even simpler than that

Your average Rush listener doesn't have the least idea what socialism is, but he vaguely recalls the name "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics." If he watches a lot of History Channel, he also knows that "Nazi" is an abbreviation of "National Socialism."

He therefore "knows" that socialism is EEEEEVILLLLL.

He feels no need to investigate further.

Doesn't understand the basics of how societies organize themselves but they can remember simple lies like "socialism = bad." When socialism begins to pall they'll switch to something else ("Nazi" is already wearing pretty thin) that the average moron-American can agree is probably bad.

3. To Republicans, socialists are basically

people who take taxpayers' money and give it away to poor, "undeserving" people, mainly those who are not white. Just increasing the national debt and spending a lot of government money doesn't make a president a socialist. It's only when they start wanting to spend money on social programs that they become socialists, because giving money to poor nonwhite people is bad and socialism is bad. Therefore social programs that benefit poor nonwhite people = socialism.

Redistributing wealth form the middle class to the upper class equals good, redistributing wealth from the upper class to the middle and lower classes equals socialism.

This is their only goal. Since Obama was so popular, in order to
