Why don't we legalize marijuana and use the taxes collected to pay for Universal Healthcare?

Those that want the 'abusers of their bodies' to somehow 'pay' will be happy because the evil weed smokers will be getting taxed and we will have healthcare. It seems like a no-brainer to me.

Grass would bring in the most revenue, of course, because there really isn't that great a market for the other stuff.

People who want it are getting it now, the government just doesn't make a dime off it but spends billions in useless interdiction programs and harassing doctors.

With money coming in and only enough going out to fund treatment centers for people who get into trouble--much, much cheaper than foreign paramilitary operations--the country could be on its way to solvency.

However, drug taxes alone won't do it.

4. Drug taxes alone won't do it, but combine that with moneys saved vis a vis

the elimination of the legal expense to uphold the current marijuana laws. Not to mention the amount of money saved by no longer incarcerating people for minor drug crimes.

Legalize and the money will appear.
