There is no left or right anymore
There is simply money. Legislation is not directed by any particular idealogy. There is no idealogy anymore there is profit.

There is no such thing as a conservative, moderate, or progressive anymore.

The amount of money needed to run a campaign requires the donations to run the campaign. Legislation is not dictated by the will of the people. It is dictated by the will of the lobbyist.

There will be no reform in our society till their is campaign finance reform.

2. That's been obvious for years, if not longer,
which is why people took those phrases of "change" so seriously.

I too am changing - going back to college and to get into a more profitable field. Change is inevitable, one way or the other.

3. 'Fraid so. There is us and them.

I feel like there are two Americas. One part wants what are the best solutions for the nation so that everyone can partake in the American dream and the other half seem to be in a dysfunctional partnership of the greedy and the enabler.

5. Big money/corpo would love to destroy the multiple party system,
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 11:28 AM by geckosfeet
As for me, I am left of liberal and dispute your argument that there is no left or right.

There is left, right, and the corpo lobbies who need to buy off both left and right.

6. The amount of money required to mount a succesful campaign
for any office in the federal government requires making enormous compromises to one's personal idealogy.

Medicare Part D, is neither a right or left policy. It is a total corporatist policy.

Baucus's bill satisfies neither the idealogies of the right or left. It does however satisfy the interest of the insurance industry and big pharma.

7. So you're saying there was no difference in ideology between
McSame and Obama, and the people who supported them?

That's a fail.

10. Probably not
I understand the inner workings. Without Campaign Finance Reform the system will never work as intended.

Honestly I think the battle is kind of worthless to fight at this point. I could devote my time and energy to this, but in the end I'm not going to get close to anything I desire for my country.

11. There are no large differences in idealogy anymore...
it's more like slightly left or slightly right. If there were a difference and it weren't about money and getting reelected, the majority we have right now would have passed any HC reform bill we wanted.

Some people think you don't get it, but you do. They don't. They treat Democrats and Republicans as sports teams, and they have their own side they want to "win". It doesn't matter if win means we stay in Iraq and Afghanistan, don't have any significant HC reform or whatever we put them there for...we just won.
