Question: Will Republicans chicken out and allow Nancy Pelosi to get away with prancing off to Syria and conspiring with Syria's leader Bashar al-Assad, a supporter of terrorism?
Answer: Only if you and I fail to do something about it -- and MIGHTY QUICK!
For months, Pelosi has been strutting around the country... waving a white flag... savaging the President... demanding our UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER ON THE WAR ON TERROR. In fact, if she had her way, the United States would skulk out of Iraq like whipped dogs, letting a bunch of rag-tag Islamic Fascists run the world.
And that's her privilege -- not as Speaker of the House -- but as a U.S. citizen whose right of free speech is protected by the First Amendment.
But Pelosi arguably committed a FELONY when she traveled to Syria and whispered behind closed doors with Bashar al-Assad, Syria's terrorist-loving leader.
First, the U.S. Constitution implicitly gives the President the authority to conduct foreign policy.
In order to make that responsibility explicit, in 1798 President John Adams initiated the Logan Act, which forbids any American -- "without authority of the United States" -- to communicate with a foreign government with the intent of influencing that government's actions in any "disputes or controversies with the United States."
VIOLATION OF THE LOGAN ACT IS A FELONY. Upon conviction, an offender can be sentenced to prison for up to three years.
If she was just a regular person like you, Nancy Pelosi would be a prime candidate for a prison cell.
Why should Speaker Pelosi -- third in the line of Presidential succession -- get away with blatantly undermining U.S. foreign policy by meeting with the leader of a country that supports terrorism? Why aren't our conservative leaders calling for a full investigation of her actions, or censure or even impeachment?
The U.S. broke off diplomatic relations with Syria in 2005, so no communication with that country's government could possibly occur "with the authority of the United States."
Pelosi's flagrant and shameless strutting on the world's stage... her cavorting with supporters of terrorism... constitutes a declaration of war against the Executive Branch of our government.
But more than that... She basically gave every terrorist around the world a GREEN LIGHT!
She sent a clear and unmistakable message to terrorists and terrorist sponsors around the world that the United States is divided and weak... That we don't have the will to fight an enemy that has shown itself to be ruthless and not beyond killing innocent Americans at home and abroad.
Pelosi's actions aren't simply foolish -- they're dangerous. But what is even more of a danger is the "ho-hum" reaction of our so-called conservative leaders in Congress.
It's time for our conservative leaders in Congress to stop behaving like Little Goody Two-Shoes and start defending the President, the rule of law, U.S. troops in Iraq and those Pelosi went to the Middle East to betray.
It's time for our conservative leaders in Congress to send the RIGHT MESSAGE to terrorists and terrorist supporters like Bashar al-Assad!

Give Them An Inch And They'll Take A Mile.
But negotiations with the President of Syria – a sponsor of terrorists --just wasn't enough for Nancy Pelosi.
Now the Speaker of the House wants to undermine U.S. foreign policy once again by meeting with … get this … the leaders of Iran, another sponsor of terrorism and a sworn enemy of the United States.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Nancy Pelosi suggested that she and Congressman Tom Lantos "may be interested in taking another diplomatic trip - to open a dialogue with Iran." Lantos told the Chronicle:
"Speaking just for myself, I would be ready to get on a plane tomorrow morning, because however objectionable, unfair and inaccurate many of (Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's) statements are, it is important that we have a dialogue with him," Lantos said. "Speaking for myself, I'm ready to go -- and knowing the speaker, I think that she might be."
And Pelosi told the Chronicle that she finds Ahmadinejad's anti-Semetic remarks "repulsive" but then adds:
"But a person of Mr. Lantos' stature and personal experience is saying that -- even as a Holocaust survivor and even recognizing the outrageous statements of the president of Iran -- it's important to have dialogue. I think that speaks volumes."
It's hard to keep track of what is going on without a scorecard but Rush Limbaugh perhaps summed it up best today when he heard the news and made the following comment:
"Dingy Harry and Miss Nancy balk at sitting down with Bush to write a clean bill to fund the war but she's eager to make a trip to Iran. They won't talk to Bush, they won't have a Democrat debate on Fox, but they WILL talk to terrorists."
As a holocaust survivor, Lantos should know better but Pelosi is obviously out of control.
And if decent men and women in Congress refuse to take a stand on her outrageous actions... her coddling of terrorists and her usurpation of U.S. foreign policy... this side-show will NEVER END!

What Did Pelosi Do?
Either out of malice or world-class stupidity, Pelosi not only undermined U.S. security interests, but also that of our staunchest ally in the Middle East -- Israel.
She visited Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert; then when Pelosi got to Syria, she told al-Assad she was bringing a message from Olmert that Israel was ready to engage in peace talks. It was a lie.
What possessed Speaker Pelosi to say this?
Did she expect to see the clouds part over the Middle East... sunshine cascade down on Muslim and Jew alike... the warring sides begin hugging each other on the Golan Heights and in the streets of Jerusalem singing Kum-Ba-Yah?
The Jerusalem Post immediately published Olmert's terse denial that he ever said such a ridiculous thing:
According to the statement, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert emphasized in his meeting with Pelosi that "although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, that country continues to be part of the Axis of Evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East."
Olmert, the statement clarified, told Pelosi that Syria's sincerity about a genuine peace with Israel would be judged by its willingness to "cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hezbollah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran."
But what Pelosi did was much worse that simply misrepresenting Olmert's words to Israel's enemies.
Here's what Robert Turner, writing in the Wall Street Journal, had to say:
"Ms. Pelosi's trip was not authorized, and Syria is one of the world's leading sponsors of international terrorism. It has almost certainly been involved in numerous attacks that have claimed the lives of American military personnel from Beirut to Baghdad.
"The U.S. is in the midst of two wars authorized by Congress. For Ms. Pelosi to flout the Constitution in these circumstances is not only shortsighted; it may well be a felony, as the Logan Act has been part of our criminal law for more than two centuries. Perhaps it is time to enforce the law."
Jim Phillips, a research fellow for Middle Eastern Affairs at the Heritage Foundation, put it this way:
"Pelosi's visit is likely to undermine the Bush administration's foreign policy and help the Syrians go back to business as usual - much to the dismay of our Lebanese, Iraqi, and Israeli friends, all of whom want the United States to take a tougher stand against Syria."
Even liberals can't defend Pelosi's actions.
In a blunt editorial, The Washington Post -- a Liberal, anti-Bush newspaper -- called the trip "foolish" and an "attempt by a Democratic congressional leader to substitute her own foreign policy for that of a sitting Republican president."
Turner is right. It is time to enforce the law. It's time to let terrorists around the world see and know that we are committed to eradicating terrorism world-wide.
It's time to hold Pelosi to account!

And What Message Are We Sending To Terrorists Around The Globe?
The Syrians loved the visit... loved Pelosi... loved the way she stabbed the President of the United States in the back.
Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad told the Financial Times, "he hoped the visit would signal the start of a dialogue between Syria and 'the people of the United States.' He called the Bush government a 'blind administration' that was even unwilling to engage in dialogue."
Mekdad also said, "The positions which have been taken by Democrats and even by a lot of Republicans in the United States Congress is very important and it's effective. We have seen this administration being cornered."
This kind of talk has made Pelosi giddy. The Washington Post quotes her as saying: "We expressed our interest in using our good offices in promoting peace between Israel and Syria."
Barbara Simpson, writing for WorldNet Daily, says the following:
"Pelosi's arrogance in defying the president's wishes concerning her trip to Syria is just the beginning of the Democrat challenge to President Bush and indeed against the presidency itself. Her goal is to diminish him in the eyes of the world, including our enemies."
Jed Babbin, writing in Human Events, goes even further in speculating on the motive behind this outrageous usurpation of presidential power:
"If you take the Democratic Party's national chairman, Howard Dean, seriously there's only one conclusion. Without bothering to win a presidential election, the Dems are trying to make separate deals, contrary to the president's policies, with some of our most deadly enemies. They are conducting a foreign policy coup d'etat."
The Politico, in an interview with Howard Dean, said Dean had boasted that "... he had been meeting with world leaders to repair 'the extraordinary damage' that the Bush administration has done to America's image and to prepare the way for a new Democratic president."
Dean also said: "I am trying to build relationships with other governments in preparation for a Democratic takeover... I want to make clear that there is an opposition in America and that we are ready to take power and that when we do, we are going to have much better relationships with them."
Read that a couple of times. Does that sound like a loyal American?

Get A Back-Bone!
Trouble is, the Republicans aren't taking this threat seriously.
Instead of calling the Justice Department and ordering a full-scale investigation, President Bush called Pelosi's mission to Syria "counterproductive," observing that "sending delegations doesn't work." He said her meeting with al-Assad would send "a mixed message" concerning American policy on Syria.
But there's nothing mixed about that message.
Terrorists understand the message loud and clear and the total lack of response... the lack of any action against Pelosi only reinforces that message.
That won't hack it, Mr. President. No more Mr. Nice Guy! Go after them with a meat cleaver, otherwise they'll be running American foreign policy before you leave office.
Vice President Cheney said very little more: "I think it is, in fact bad behavior on her part. I wish she hadn't done it." Then he found a silver lining: "Fortunately I think the various parties involved recognize she doesn't speak for the United States in those circumstances, she doesn't represent the administration."
Everybody knows that, Mr. Vice President, even the Syrians.
Such weak statements from our leaders are neither good politics nor good statesmanship. They ignore the threat to the future of America that comes when politicians from Vermont and San Francisco try to steal the presidency.
Both Dean and Pelosi come from Leftist worlds and see the rest of the country through Leftist eyes.
We MUST act decisively in light of Pelosi's outrageous violation of the Logan Act.
If she is allowed to get away with this defiance of the Constitution and a venerable law almost as old as the nation itself, then we will have surrendered our country to our most dangerous enemies -- which may not be Syria and Iran but Pelosi and Dean.
