When I announced for Congress a week ago, we knew Washington Republicans would bring serious muscle into Nebraska to defend the status quo.
They're not wasting any time. Republican Party bosses are already swinging for the kneecaps – firing off personal attacks in press releases, distorting my record in the Legislature, and even offering Husker football tickets to the party activists who dredge up the most dirt on my family.
If Republican Party bosses insist on slinging mud, that's their choice – but we won't let these dirty, Karl Rove-style tactics take us by surprise. Let them know we'll be ready for them by contributing at least $25 online right now.

But here's something you'll never hear from them: the truth about my record in the Legislature. I've stood up for middle class families, increased access to affordable healthcare, and been an advocate for those who don't have a voice in the halls of power. I've worked with senators from both parties to pass bills that move Nebraska forward, because the important thing is not whether it's a Democratic idea or a Republican idea. What matters is whether or not it's a good idea that will create jobs and strengthen the economy.
Unfortunately, Lee Terry and the other Washington politicians don't think that way. They spend most of their time playing political "gotcha." They've forgotten the reason they were hired: to deliver for their constituents. Instead, they've become rubber stamps for their party bosses.
After enthusiastically supporting just about every one of George W. Bush's ideas, Lee Terry now reflexively votes against the President every chance he gets – just because his party bosses tell him to.
In these serious times, that just won't cut it. Nebraska deserves better.
Republican Party bosses know they don't stand a chance in this election if the campaign focuses on the kind of representation Nebraska deserves in Congress. So they're desperately trying to distract voters by slinging mud at me and digging up dirt on my family.
We need to stick together. You continue to be an important part of this effort, and I'm counting on you to stand with me right now:
