Do any of you have Metlife home & auto insurance?
My home & auto ins. are both up for renewal the first of July. I've been price comparing every year because most of these companies are just crazy lately. I receive a pitch in the mail from Metlife last week and I called them. Ijust received the hard copy quote today, and moving to them would save me about $200 a year. I've always known Metlife as a life ins. company, but some investigation on the net says they entered the property lines several years ago. I tried to find personal opinions on the net, but I only found 2, and they were at completely opposite opinions from each other.

I figured, my friends on DU are ALWAYS great sources of info, so I'm asking you if you have any experience with Metlife Home & Auto Insurance, and would you recomment them?

1. I hope you are comparing apples to apples.
In Texas it is very difficult to save very much if you do this. Our companies are very competitive in their rates which are very high. I settled on Farmers in the DFW area.

10. Yes, Igave the specific coverages that I have currently to the
Metlife rep, and when I received the hard copy proposal, I laid it beside my current policies and compared them line by line. The ONLY differences are the few things that are included FREE in the Metlife policies that are not on my current ones, such as coverage for possible identity theft where Metlife provides individualassistance to help you correct your credit records, and a specific guaranteed replacement coverage for property damage.

One of the reasons I posted this question was becauseI was afraid they might have a reputation of lowballing their quotes to get your business and then raisethe premiums dramatically upon renewal. If that were the case, I figured my friends on DU would know that and say so.

2. Read everything twice
and be careful. We have MetLife for my wife's life insurance, however home and cars are with different carriers. I have been happy with both... I am sure you are doing your research and I really don't want to give a plug to any company on an open board.

:hi:

3. I have Kemper and love them.
I have no experience with Metlife.

I have my car and property insurance with Kemper and they have been great. I've had 2 claims and my rates have not gone up. One claim was a few years ago when my house sustained 10k in damage from an ice storm. The adjuster was a great and fair guy. Last Oct., I totaled my car and they paid me 8200 after my 500 deductible. Based on research, I thought I'd be lucky to get 7000. BTW, one perk to having both car and property with Kemper is that they paid for my rental car after my wreck.

In case you're wondering, I don't work for Kemper.

4. Though I loathe insurance companies in general ...
My experience with MetLife has been nothing but positive so far about a year and a half after we switched from All-State for home and auto insurance. All-State jacked up our rate significantly, then when we asked, they blamed it on our credit report. I guess they didn't expect us to actually CHECK our credit report ourselves, but we did, and both my wife and I had spotless records. So to hell with All-State.

Did some research over a couple of days and came up with MetLife. We're about to renew in a couple of weeks, and our rates have either held steady or gone down slightly.

9. All-State is a word you don't say in polite company in Louisiana
They are the very worst of the very worst, according to most people you will find here in Katrina Country. They have a reputation of being tight with your money, combative, and generally a pain in the ass to deal with to get what is owed to you after your life has been destroyed.

5. I used to

.....and I would never use them again, but that's just me.

We had a bad experience with them a few years ago after a car accident.

Cheers

6. We have had Metlife for over 10 years now. My husband had one
small fender bender, with no trouble.

We just got our new bill today (we pay 6 mos at a time) and our bill raised $66.00. Husband is going to call on Monday to find out why.

Both our cars are older

98 Tauras wagon, and 2001, We do have full coverage still. We went with them because it was cost-cutting due to where I worked. And it was MUCH cheaper than anywhere else.

It, however, was not cheaper for our mortgage insurance....so we didn't change that.

Hope this helps.

8. I have met life car ins.
I am very satisfied with them. I have it through a group rate with my job. They do a payroll deduction for me. It's very convenient for me that way. I totaled my car a few years ago and they were wonderful. I have had no problems with them.
