"They're far more Pilate, than Jesus"
Just came up in a discussion with a friend about today's GOP. Seemed like a handy thumbnail description...

2. Actually, Pilate wasn't that bad a guy
He did give Jesus several chances to get out of the trouble he was in, and even testified to a riled-up crowd that he thought Jesus was an all-right dude.

I would compare them more to the moneychangers in the temple that Jesus drove out with a whip.

6. that is the Romans trying to divert their guilt onto the Jews. Pilate
was a Roman governor, ie, he was a killer and tool. There never was any event as told in the Bible by a Roman governor about a prisoner and a festival. Ever.

4. But, wait, Jesus was totally a free-market capitalist, wasn't he?
Edited on Tue Sep-15-09 12:29 PM by Lucy Goosey
I mean, he'd obviously be opposed to publically funded healthcare for everyone.

Also, Jesus was a total warmonger, and a union-buster.

Sarcasm, of course, but I'm pretty sure there are right wing American Christians who believe stuff like this.

5. you are confusing New Jesus with Old Jesus
Old Jesus, before he died, was all "help the poor" and shit. New Jesus, who comes back after Israel gets destroyed, is a warrior for those who have earned it, as evidenced by wealth and power, or at least the coveting of it.

I wish I could add a sarcasm tag, but I think that is pretty much it.
