Condoleezza Rice joins 2 private Ala. golf clubs
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has joined two exclusive golf clubs in Alabama.

Rice is a native of Birmingham and has family there, though she does not own a home in the city. Chief of Staff Colby Cooper says the golf memberships at Greystone Golf & Country Club and Shoal Creek golf club are part of an effort to reach out to citizens of her home state.

Shoal Creek came under fire for having no black members in 1990 as it prepared to host a major tournament.

Rice has visited the Birmingham area twice in the past four months. She was in town last week researching a book about her parents and found time for golf at Shoal Creek with club president Bobby Luckie.

Rice is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution public policy research group at Stanford University.

1. Rice is a war criminal
and should be sitting in a cold cell in the Hague.

2. Thinking about running for governor?
I don't think Alabamans are stupid enough to elect Condoleezza Rice as their governor. Stanford is probably in favor of it, though. Their very own institutional shame to match Berkeley's for having John Yoo on its faculty.

4. I often wonder how much of it is an act.
She comes off almost as something she designed, and I suppose I could admire that in a "plan your own success" sort of way- but it all comes off as just a little phony. That allegation would surely get me accused of racism or misogyny by some, but I don't care. There is something a little too deliberate about her. Yes, it's possible that she loves golf. It's possible that she really is a hard core conservative. It's possible that she likes having an oil tanker named after herself and doesn't care about the implications. It's possible that she would dance with the devil if it would make her well respected, wealthy, and powerful. But as a whole picture, it all comes off as a little bit forced.

I wonder what she would be like completely out of the public eye. Something on the order of How Condi Got Her Groove Back.

6. Other than as a prompt for the usual frothing, what's the point of this tidbit of non-information?
