My "pretty-well informed" REPUBLICAN brother didn't know what
"single-payer" meant when we talked about health-care/health-insurance :eyes: reform this past weekend. I had to TELL him what single-payer meant! This was a TOTALLY new term for him.

THAT told me that REPUBLICANS don't even have this on their 'radar-screen'....they have to go up the "edjumacation ladder". He wasn't necessarily against it, but being caught 'totally unaware' had to nominally fight against it, b/c *I* was the opponent....the little sister, "other guy"

There are a LOT of things that Dems & Repubs agree upon.

1. They ALWAYS have their facts wrong!

I buggers me to death. When you get into an argument over the facts .. there is no changing minds.

2. You can tell your brother that turning off the radio and listening to other people talk
in public. Encourage him to go out and just LISTEN.

He'll get a real better idea.

8. They usually claim they get their information "...from a variety of sources..."
Occasionally, they'll watch ABC nightly news, or Jon Stossel on 20/20 and because Rush told 'em, think that's the "left" side of the news...

10. Stossel is going to Faux news. Their various sources are Fox, worldnetdaily
Insight, Stormfront, Drudge, and freerepublic.

11. this is significant, I think
I can see how the term "single-payer" would be off-putting to someone who didn't take the two seconds necessary to think about it... we know how Republicans hate that dreaded word "PAYER."

Seriously... I wonder how much of this sturm und drang could have been avoided by a more artful choice of words on the Democrats' part. Sad that public policy should have to be treated like advertising, but I suppose that's nothing new. And I wonder whether it's too late to start using different words to describe the plan.
