Are they planning to privatize emergency medical services and fire departments, too?

If you can't prove you've paid, do they let you die?

What's the deal?

3. Yeah, it's like that
Haven't you heard a 911 call where they run your credit before dispatching emergency services?

4. Paramedics are often private already.
and yes I'm certain many would privatize everything from fire fighters to obviously the military.

To be honest though, health insurance is already private and this is why we are talking about it.

5. There will be a disingenuous moron exemption for health care services. Be afraid.

7. I had to call an ambulance five times during my husband's illness.
I was never asked for money until after we reached the ER. Then the people with clipboards came around inquiring as to his coverage and that included the paramedics from the private ambulance service. The fire department never asked me for anything.

10. It's a legitimate question. What services will remain non profit?
And what services will only be covered through the mandated purchase of insurance?

11. That's not the question you asked.
That's a new question, with a different answer.

12. That is the province of local governments, not federal. So I guess it would depend
on where you live.

13. "Like Auto Insurance"
My guess is that you would have paramedics respond, but because you didn't have insurance - not only would you have to pay for everything out of your own pocket (Can't apply for charity), you would also be fined.

Same thing with cars - You ran into another car? All expenses come out of your pocket and you are fined.

That's my guess if we're looking at auto insurance as a model.

15. So if you are given tax credits to buy insurance or a chance to enroll into the public option, you
won't?
