Hypothetical: What If A D Had Called bush A Liar During His Yellow Cake Speech?
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 02:35 PM by stopbush
I don't know about you, but I would have jumped out of my chair and yelled, "Yes! About time! Way to go, D truth teller! Fuck you, bush!"

Just sayin'...

:dilemma:

1. They'd probably already been censured
if they had done that. Heck, the house would have convened a special night-time session that very night to censure.

2. That's true, but most of us on the left would have been applauding, wouldn't we?

9. Yes, we would be applauding
And the hypothetical Democratic heckler would have had one rather important distinction that Addison Graves Wilson, Sr. did not: He would have been correct.

12. get the rope
I can hear the cries of get the rope arising from the floor. And they'd probably have insisted the hangings be public as a deterrent against anyone else who might be tempted to call the shrub on his untruths, mis information, and disinformation. And the oh so compliant SCLM would have dutifully reported each and everyone of their complaints.

Let's not kid ourselves. Rethugs only believe in free speech for themselves.

4. If you're trying to draw a parallel, it's not a very good one.
Bush was lying during the yellow cake speech. Obama did not lie during his speech last night. Big difference.

11. It's easy to say that because all of us here believe that bus lied
(it's been proven, after all) while we took Obama's word that he wasn't lying (personally, I didn't know if the language in question existed in the bill when the incident happened. I just assumed Obama was telling the truth and Wilson was lying. I was happy to see that confirmed today).

But the mindless Rs actually believe that Obama plans to insure illegal aliens. To them, Wilson is a hero for "speaking truth to power," just as we would have applauded a D speaking truth to power to bush.

The question is about decorum and protocol. If a D had shouted down bush, it would have been just as inappropriate as Wilson, even if it was the truth.

The parallel exists on the reaction to a politician ignoring protocol.

15. Once again, there's NO parallel to be made.
Yes, we KNOW that Bush was lying. As you've said, it's been proven. We also know that Obama was telling the truth (if you'd take the time to read the bill, you'd see the section where it notes specifically that illegal immigrants won't be covered. So once again, to clarify, BUSH LIED, Obama didn't. There is no parallel. Just what are you trying to suggest, anyway? Are you trying to chastise Democrats for a hypothetical situation which wouldn't even be apt? Pretty sad if you ask me.

18. I'm saying that if one of our guys was to have done it to bush
that we all would have cheered and said "fuck protocol."

23. Nice hypothetical there.
And would you know what the difference would be in this hypothetical you're bringing up for god knows what reason? That's right, it's that if someone had called bush a liar, it would have been an understatement. It's already been determined that Wilson is the liar, not Obama. Maybe we would have cheered, maybe we wouldn't have. But IF, someone had done that to bush, they would have been right to do so. Are things beginning to click now? And once again, just what are you trying to suggest here?

6. Apples and oranges-- Bush lied in that speech, Obama did not lie last night
Calling someone who has lied a liar is not wrong.

Need a better comparison.

8. I think this Wilson guy is an asshole BUT if the Dems had half as much balls
as he does, maybe they could get some shit accomplished!!

And what if a D had called bush a liar during any of his Iraq war speeches, in fact what if 10-20 of them would have stood up for what is right and had called him a liar??? It may have started a real discussion about the Iraq war and how it didn't make sense and was all fabricated. Who knows, maybe we never even would have gone to war in Iraq again and we would have saved thousands of American lives, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives and Trillions of dollars which greatly contributed to our financial downfall last year.

Yeah...what if???? They should definitely SHOULD have.

There is a place for everything. Capital Hill isn't the place for screaming anything, especially not at the President during an important address.

I expect my representatives to act like grownups because they're the people representing me. I would never scream 'liar' to anyone in public
