My local 24/7 news radio station has gone extreme rightwing - "the new home of Dr. Laura"
KFWB los angeles. It's been 24 hours news radio for decades. Well recently they added Dr. Laura from 12pm to 3pm! And during news broadcasts they were playing snippets from Dr. Laura, Bill O'Reilly and Roger Hedgecock!

I just looked on the website to see that they switched to a rightwing radio station when I wasn't looking.

9p-Mid Dave Ramsey

1. They have the same owners as KNX, now, so a decision was made to make them rightwing talk
...and keep "news" on KNX...

Used to listen to KFWB a lot myself, while driving around.

No more.

19. Be wary of 100.3, though
The station is owned by Bonneville International Corp. Sure, one media conglomerate is as bad as the other these days, but this one unnerves me more than most.

20. Bonneville Is One Of The Better Companies
Yes, Bonneville is owned by the LDS Church but is run as a fully automomous commercial venture. I'm very familiar with their operations here in Chicago and they're one of the few corporates who take good care of their people and try to program to the listeners. In the nearly 40 years I've listened to their stations (and they've been operating stations for nearly 90 years) I never have heard them profess a political or religious viewpoint. That said, the company still does have a commercial policy that refuses any liquor advertising and will pull a song with highly suggestive lyrics, but overall I would rate Bonneville highly...far higher than a Cheap Channel or Citadel that treat their employees (those who are left) like shit.

We can't get a decent heavy metal station, but we get RW froth whipping 24/7!

10. In a way, this may be good news. She's off KFI where she's been for years
KFI is 50,000 watts. Her ratings must be way down to be put on KFWB which is a much less powerful station.

KFI used to have her on at noon. Here is KFI's new lineup:

5-9AM
Bill Handel

9AM-12PM
Rush Limbaugh

12-2PM
The Bill Handel Show

2-7PM
John and Ken

7-10PM
Kennedy & Suits

10PM-5AM (until 6AM Saturday)
Coast to Coast AM with George Noory

Note that Laura's timeslot is taken by the very popular Bill Handel (who, along with his weekend law show seems to BE KFI radio!) and an extra hour was added to John and Ken, the guys who are trying to destroy California.

But then so can John and Ken. Their show is just a mouthpiece for the corporations.

17. Yeah... ever tried to hire 24/7 armed body guards...
That didn't look like rappers?

LOL!

Actually, I knew the head of security for a massive financial institution, and its billionaire CEO... so I hired someone on his suggestion... $1500+ for each 8-hour shift! All because of their stupidity! Argh! I do have a fine collection of idiot freeper type phone messages though! :p

KFWB WAS rock and roll when I was in high school...

KFWB---Channel 98!

If you can sing that, you lived in southern CA in the early 60s.

To hear all the L.A. area station jingles from the early 60s. A blast from the past!

18. I knew them all!
The first thing I ever bought myself was an AM transistor radio... I heard all those jingles through a 1" speaker:)

I wrote a killer (if I do say so myself) KNAC obit for my 'zine when they bit the dust, and it includes a brief history of LA radio... I should try to scan that as a jpg...

Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 05:30 PM by LaPera
I know they carry Mike Malloy & Thom Hartmann isn't that a progressive station? I live in Northern California and there are at least three local progressive stations here....don't know 'bout LA....Are there any liberals in Southern California...we don't give Southern CA much thought up here so I wouldn't know.
