How about this...


"We the Fortune 500, in order to form a more perfect corporation, establish market share, provide for increased shareholder equity, and secure the blessings of wealth to ourselves and our heirs and assigns forever, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Before the civil war, the "United States" was plural.

2. Colloquially that is true...at least in the South...
