CBS/Westwood considering Dennis Miller as Imus replacement
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 06:22 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
Yeah, because his shows have been SO successful. This is SUCH an improvement.

---
"Westwood One (managed and partly owned by CBS Corp.), which syndicated the Imus show, did not return a call about replacement programming on the 60 other stations that carried the program. Comic
Dennis Miller, who started a syndicated show in January, was mentioned as one candidate.
Speculation about Imus immediately centered on satellite radio. Howard Stern, the I-Man's broadcasting bete noir, found freedom and a fortune by moving to Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. And shock jocks Opie and Anthony, booted from terrestrial radio in 2002, returned to XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. two years later — and now do morning shows on both satellite and FM radio."

1. That sounds like a story...
Put out there by either his manager or his agent. Considering his track record, no rational radio executive would seriously entertain Miller as a replacement for anything but a wheel chock.

9. I Agree
I'll bet Dennis made the call himself...cha cha.

An interesting rumor I heard today that I would put more merit it is CBS finding a sports figure to host the show...since most of Imus' affiliates are sports talk stations. Miller making Solitare references ain't gonna fly with Joe Sixpack stuck in the traffic jam.

2. The half-life of this show would be 4 days...
Literally, radioactive decay.

Miller is so unfunny he makes Imus look like George Carlin.

3. And, of course, HE would NEVER say anything
that would offend ANYONE.

8. Doubt he would...
I fact, he's unlikely to say anything to even wake anyone...

4. there is no replacement for imus. that show is done.
like him or (x)hate him, he was a personality with a long history and his own audience.

cbs will probably regret firing him.

10. Wow, replace an ANTIWAR asshole with a PROWAR asshole.
Sounds like a win for the corporate pro-war suits at GE, and their corporate pro-war advertisers who have contracts in the BILLIONS with the Pentagon.

Follow the money....anyone who still thinks this firing was actually about three horrible words is high.

14. Imus, anti-war?
He has equated Kucinich with Al-Zarqawi...

http://mediamatters.org/items/200606090012

Said Kucinich should be decapitated...

http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2007/04/imus_show_called_for_kucinich.html

I also recall him slamming Kerry for "coming around" on the war, and he has certainly not called for the beheading of anyone in the pro-war crowd.

Go figure...

18. Uh, so he hates Kucinich...big fucking deal. There are DEMOCRATS who think he's a putz, too.
Just because Kucinich is antiwar doesn't mean that Imus has to hop in bed with the guy.

Imus said Bush and Cheney should be HANGED, too. Get a load of this, from an outraged GOP site that "exposes liberal bias:" http://newsbusters.org/node/9930

Imus called Cheney a WAR CRIMINAL: http://www.infowars.com/articles/us/cheney_msnbc_describes_as_war_criminal.htm

He was bullshit at being denied access to Walter Reed, and furious about conditions there: http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/22/imus-reed/

This is especially rich--Tweety Bird and Imus discuss the "Bullshit Iraq War:" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpzyMp2pQk8

Please actually look at/watch the videos. And then tell me the guy isn't opposed to the war.

And, FWIW, he and his wife and the Kerrys are PERSONAL friends. So that shit doesn't fly.

Look, I don't think Imus was appropriate in his language at all--it was reprehensible, but it often is, and that is not NEWS. But I think his firing is hypocritical, because he wasn't fired, really, for his words, but for his antiwar stance by the sponsors who have enormous Pentagon contracts worth billions.

The Rutgers ladies said they didn't want him fired...so what's up with THAT? So much for "victim impact statements."
