Is it time to consider more drastic measures?
The recent furor over Obama's speech to the nation's schoolchildren has gotten me thinking... At what point do we as Democrats and liberals decide that these Rightist, Republican assholes have gone too far? How much do we put up with? At what point do we collectively decide that enough is enough, and decide to nullify their nonsense?

What is the best way to proceed in order to minimize the harm that they can do? I have my own ideas, but I'd very much like to hear yours.

1. It passed that point long ago for me,
but I think that we the people are powerless against the agitators that are all over the media.

It's up to the Democratic Party leaders, and the White House, and the Democratic majority in Congress to take stands, and to speak out, and to defend their President, and to be strong about it.

If they're not going to do it - and it looks like they're not - there's nothing we can do except to vote them out next time around and hope for a bunch with balls get elected.................................

3. It's basically a war
We need to mariginalize, smear, ridicule and demoralize the opposition. If we don't, it will be done to us!!!!

4. Until we get more like minded people to remove their blinders,
There is little that can be done. I just do not understand how collectively dumb WE THE PEOPLE are.I cannot understand it at all. The repugs have destroyed this country, corruption destroyed the Romans and Afghanistan destroyed the USSR and we have a boatload of both!!!

6. Agreed.....
until more people wake up and like you said 'remove the blinders' not much will change, people don't change until it's too late unfortunately.

9. lol, but seriously some people are cardboard revolutionaries
they believe if there is a revolution that they will be leaders rather than just cannon fodder, and even if the revolution comes and is successful how long before those same people who believed they are the vanguard of the revolution are put against a wall and shot alongside the fat cat banker. If one has ever witnessed war and in particular a civil war then its not a road you would wish to go down...

10. I think there are different tacks on the issue.

I think dems/libs/progs etc must avoid what I feel is splintering, evidenced by the abundant bickering going on around here, for example asking things like Do we REALLY trust Prez O to do the right things? The reps/cons use their 'silly' issues to grow and solidify their base, and 'we' spend inordinate amounts of time giving them air-time, when we should be instead forcing discussions on the real issues related to education and health care, etc.

It would be great if we could 'nullify their nonsense,' as you suggest, by somehow exclaiming, but we don't appear to be sufficiently united to do so.

12. We start by remembering who won the election
We control the House.

We control the Senate.

We hold the Executive Branch.

The Congress needs to start passing bills, small at first then proceeding to big ones like Health Care, and send them to President Obama for signing into law.

We don't need the Republicans to govern. It is time to just steamroller them and get on with fixing this country

15. The More Noise They Make The More Irrelevant They Become...
The quiet backstory to the "Obama is falling" meme of the corporate media...the rushpublicans aren't rising. Their popularity numbers are still in the dumpers and are in the grips of the extreme elements. It's a noisy 20-25% that are getting a lot of corporate media attention and appear to be bigger than they really are. Sure...3 million people will watch Dreck drool on his shoes, but there were over 120 million people who voted last year. There's a large "silent majority" that are not buying the bullshit and see the rushpublicans as both irrational and irresponsible.

The hate radio crowd are in their glory...a false one. It's a competition to amp up the outrage that draws ratings to their failing ventures. It's getting attention not based on substance but on lies and distortions...deliberately so. But it's a game that not only is limited in its audience but is more and more repulsive to the middle.
