Time for Betty Lou to hand Baucus the note
Remember in 10th grade there was the boy or girl who just wouldn't let you alone?

You tried everything but he/she just wouldn't stop? "Ah yeah maybe we could go to the dance but I think my mom wants me to help her paint the house on Friday".

Over and over again.

Well the Republicans must be feeling that way about Baucus. Its embarassing. Look Max the Republicans aren't going to the dance with you. They aren't going to see Harry Potter with you and they will not meet you at the mall. They will however let you continue to do their homework for them.

Finally you grow weary of it and you resort to the final step. You call Betty Lou and ask her to take a note. It doesn't matter what is in the note everybody knows that when Betty Lou brings a note you have reached the final and most public rejection.

Well, its time for Betty Lou to hand Baucus the note.

2. Baucus is astonishingly full of fail.
http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/thats-it-by-digby-feel-magic.html

"Baucus has basically chosen the back door approach to lifting the employer exclusion, which was floated earlier by John Kerry. You'll recall that CBO head Steve Elmendorf indicated in his testimony that lifting the exclusion was one financing mechanism he would probably score well. (As I wrote at the link, that seemed like a strong hint from CBO to do exactly that if the Democrats wanted a decent score.)

Since this is going to piss off the insurance companies and make the Republicans more obstinate than ever, it's hard to see why he felt the need to eliminate the public plan, but there you have it. So we have a shitty plan that the CBO will say saves money but that Democrats will have as hard a time passing as one with a public plan. Awesome strategy.

So, no public plan, no co-ops, no trigger. No bipartisanship. No surprise."
