I'm assuming that you mean mainstream media. But if they're not mainstream, then what are they?
Are non-mainstream media simply media that aren't attached to corporate interests? Perhaps you define "mainstream" by the overall reach of the media: that they're widely distributed and corporate-owned (all media are privately owned, by the way.) So does that include Air America Radio, that airs on many Clear Channel radio stations?
Or maybe you define non-mainstream media as alternative media that promote a liberal ideology? Would Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow qualify for this category? What about Ed Schultz? All three of these programs air on MSNBC, owned my NBC Universal, which is a publicly traded company.
So if you refer to "the media," then what media are those? Apparently not the media you rely upon for information. Regardless, what media do you trust? Likely you don't call those media a part of "the media."
So when you say "the media," then what do you really mean?
