I would LOVE to have a beer with this woman, and I don't even like beer:

Mr. President, I ask you this: If they don’t even believe you are an American citizen, why the hell do you care if they think you are going to kill their grandmother? Rush Limbaugh was not elected to any office. Pass healthcare reform with a public option and move on. Rush will get over it. Trust me. He has a pill for that.

1. A pragmatic response.

Because he has to be their president too. Whether they like it or not. Whether we like it or not. Whether they recognize him as their president or not. It's called leadership.

Walter Wink:

South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu walked by a construction site on a temporary sidewalk the width of one person. A white man appeared at the other end, recognized Tutu, and said, "I don't make way for gorillas." At which Tutu stepped aside, made a deep sweeping gesture, and said, "Ah, yes, but I do."

3. By working against their fabriacted opinions he IS being their President
He is the President of all Americans and when he has policies that are best for all Americans he does his job.

4. That's great.
Kind of reminds me of the joke (reproduced once on Happy Days, of all places) about the black guys who walk into an establishment (bar, restaurant) and are told "We don't serve Negroes here." "That's OK," they reply, "we weren't planning to order any."

2. I do love those two old ladies. They are sisters in spirit to Molly Ivins, aren't they?
