The Blue Dogs from every region of the country except the South are in a deep predicament. If they do not deliver health care reform this year, they face defeat next year.
For example, if there is no Health Care Reform, Reid will probably lose next year.
The Public Option is curently more popular than any politician.
If, however, Health Care Reform is passed without a public option, the Progressive seats will probably remain in Democratic hands, but those current Progressive Congresspersons could face defeat in a primary challenge brought on by a feeling of betrayal in their constituents.
But, if no health care reform passes because the Progressives held their ground and refused to vote for reform with no public option, they will likely hold their seats safely.
In other words, the Progressives have the Blue Dogs over a barrel, and they damned well know it.
Who's going to blink? In poltiics, it's usually the person with the most to lose.
The Blue Dogs have the most to lose.
