Bush Calls for 'Culture of Life'
Oh the fucking irony. I was raised catholic and I know that the death penalty is considered a huge no-no. How interesting that they will condemn Kerry for his support of abortion but embrace the man who endorses execution, torture and unprovoked war. Those Iraqi kids must not be valuable enough. All the more reason I reject organized religion.

By ANN SANNER Associated Press Writer

April 13,2007 | WASHINGTON -- President Bush, at the national Catholic prayer breakfast, stressed his opposition to easing restrictions on federally funded embryonic stem cell research, a reference to a bill he's threatened to veto.

"In our day there is a temptation to manipulate life in ways that do not respect the humanity of the person," Bush said Friday. "When that happens, the most vulnerable among us can be valued for their utility to others instead of their own inherent worth."

The Senate on Wednesday voted 63-34 to pass the measure that it hopes will lead to new medical treatments. The vote, however, fell short of a veto-proof margin needed to enact the law over Bush's objections. The House is expected to approve a similar measure in the weeks ahead.

"We must continue to work for a culture of life where the strong protect the weak and where we recognize in every human life the image of our creator," Bush said.

His brief speech also included a call to Congress to pass immigration reform, a prayer for U.S. troops serving abroad and praise for Catholic schools across America. Later Friday, Bush planned to meet with parochial education leaders and parents at the White House.

The prayer breakfast at a Washington hotel attracted religious leaders, members of Congress, Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Samuel Alito and top government officials. After the president spoke, a female heckler shouted "War criminal! War criminal!" It was unclear whether the president heard her.

Bush, a Methodist, noted that this year's prayer breakfast occurred the Friday after Lent.

"You can eat your bacon in good conscience," he joked.

I know there are wonderful good people who are religious but holy shit W and his ilk give the whole concept a bad name.

3. Hey. What's a little torture here and there, anyway?
Those detainees are enemy combatants. They're terrorists. They're the bad guys. Ethics isn't an issue here. I'm sure the experts agree. I mean hell, the president's own lawyer, that Gonzales guy, even said the Geneva Conventions were quaint. You know -- antiquated. The few remaining liberals still cling to them as if they were still pertinent, but after 9/11, this is a new world! Nothing will ever be the same again!

And what's more, we can't be distracted by all this crap about blood-for-oil. Let's just crank out the huge SUVs and suck Iraqi oil out of the ground. What do you mean they don't have any electricity or water? Who cares? We need that oil, it's our oil, we have the need for it, and we're going to take it. If the thieves want to loot the National Museum, that's no concern of ours. We guarded the oil fields, so it's all good.

Now this Nancy Pelosi woman. She's starting to get on Dubya's nerves. All this tough talk about a new Congress. As if Congress were relevant. I don't know who she thinks she is, but one call to our Swiftboat crew and down she comes in the polls. We know how to play this game.

Oops! There go another 3 millions emails!

12. There aqre times when I wish the God of the OT would manifest
himself once again.

I can just see bush standing at a Catholic b'fast meeting and suddenly, there is a booming voice coming from above, "You...who have started wars in my name; you who have killed those who were innocent of any crime...YOU dare to use my name again?!!!" A bolt of lightning rips through the room and bush has been taken away, as the group looks on with a sense of Divine accomplishment...:D
