My letter to my children's principal regarding the President's speech:
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 12:15 AM by Darkhawk32
Dear Mrs. XXXXXXXX,

This past week I talked with your office briefly about the school's plans with regards to the President's speech to be made on September 8 to the nation's school children. When I finally received an answer as to whether or not the school would participate in watching the speech, I was told that the decision was with the teacher as to whether or not they had time in their curriculum to do so. I found this answer to be quite disturbing.

I don't understand why any school administrator, principal or teacher wouldn't want the President talking to their kids about working hard to reach goals and being as studious as possible. It is a quite an investment in time. Your school is participating in a sanctioned fluoride rinse to prevent cavities but can't spend twenty minutes or so watching a President's speech? The conflict in this is disturbing.

Regardless of whatever decision Mrs. XXXXXXX or Mrs. XXXXXX make, I would like to request my children watch the speech. It is of the highest importance that children understand how their government works and have a firm grasp of civics. Sadly enough, too many kids grow up with absolutely no idea how a bill is passed into law or who their elected officials are. I do not want either of my kids to be one of those children.

Thank you for your time,

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Father of XXXX and XXXXXXXXXX

1. I wonder if any of these morons
who are disrespecting our President under the guise of "fear that he's delivering a political message" are probably going to make sure that their kids don't take part in the Presidential Scholar Program, I hope. It would be terrible for them to be exposed to a program that might serve to advance them academically, socially, and professionally.

Yes, keep them away from all Presidents, and anything having to do with the White House, right?

Unless, of course, there's a white guy in the Oval Office. Then, everything will be fine.

These ignoramuses don't deserve to be citizens of the United States, and their parenting credentials are just about illegal. They're wearing their bigotry so proudly, and it makes me want to leave my beloved home country and go somewhere else to live, somewhere that's not defined by stupidity and racism.........................................

2. K&R
Since the decision is being left to the teachers you may also want to contact your childrens' individual teachers to let them know that you hope that they do show the speech and that if they do decide not to you would appreciate an explanation as to why they made that decision.

4. Does anyone else feel like the reason a lot of people do not want their
children to watch it has to do with race? This country has come so far and then some parents do not want their children to hear to president, who is the product of what working hard in school can do for you, talk to them.
