Hate to admit it, but they are right about this "plot"...
Submitted by KC Cicero on September 3, 2009 - 4:54pm.

... to turn all these kids into Democrats.

You've caught us, this time, for sure.

Simple fact is that encouraging education is an "insideous plot" to get kids educated, which -- naturally -- will turn them away from the GOP.

Educate kids, and they won't become athiests, but they will see through the anti-scientific, faith-based nonsense at the core of the GOP Platform -- whether it applies to creationism or the magic of unregulated markets. Education is the antithesis of such magical thinking.

Educate kids and the fear-mongers will have a harder time stampeding them into unnecessary wars or giving up their Constitutional heritage. They might conclude that torture IS a crime, and those who organized it are criminals, unworthy of our national heritage.

Educate kids and they will wonder why we are the only industrialized nation without universal health care and spend more to get less. They might wonder why they should subsidize and protect billionaires who outsource American jobs to countries where workers have no rights and the environment can be polluted for free.

Educate kids and they might be tolerant of "the other" -- other races, other religions, other life-styles.

At least we can hope so.

3. Don't parents have the right to perpetuate their fears, ignorance and bigotry?
This is a cherished American value, after all.

7. Nope, children have rights too. The right to honest
dialogue. The right to be taught humanity toward others, the right to live without fear. The right to be taught the differnce between ignorance and actual science.

9. This is obviously why the slogan Keep Away From My Kids is gaining popularity.
Teaching tolerance? Rational discourse? Superiority of science to mythology?

You monster.

Verily, these are akin to kidnapping and brainwashing.

It says, "Educate kids, and they won't become athiests, but they will see through the anti-scientific, faith-based nonsense at the core of the GOP Platform"

6. insidious
It doesn't have an 'e' in it.

Sorry to nitpick, but if they're going to write an article about the importance of education, and imply the rightwing fears and/or lacks education, it would help to either know how to spell or how to use spellcheck.

16. Thankfully it's not Bush talking to our children
I'm glad it's not that crusty old war vet McCain talking to our children. I'm so glad we got Obama instead of that guy.

18. it's a stretch to call that "talking"
I'd call it stuttering but every stutterer I've met is intelligent so that doesn't fit. blabbering, bloviating, stupifying but not talking.

17. Kids love Obama, they know a pure spirit when they see one.
And this fact alone is hope for the future. Not to worry, these kids will log online and see the forbidden speech. Some of them will remain as prejudiced as their parents, but I suspect most of them will see the truth. I have hope with children. Adults, not so much.

20. This is the plot they fear Tuesday....
New Year's Day incident
On New Year's Day 1965, miffed at having to work on the holiday, Sales ended his live broadcast by encouraging his young viewers to tiptoe into their still-sleeping parents' bedrooms and remove those "funny green pieces of paper with pictures of U.S. Presidents" from their pants and pocketbooks. "Put them in an envelope and mail them to me," Soupy instructed the children. "And I'll send you a postcard from Puerto Rico!" He was then hit with a pie.<4>

Several days later, a chagrined Soupy announced that money was unexpectedly being received in the mail. He explained that he had been joking and announced that unreturnable contributions would be donated to charity. As parents' complaints increased, WNEW's management felt compelled to suspend Sales for two weeks. Young viewers picketed Channel 5. The uproar surrounding Sales' suspension increased his popularity.

Sales describes the incident in his 2001 autobiography Soupy Sez! My Life and Zany Times.<5>
