So Now It's "A Trigger" Option. What a Joke!
Single Payer became a "public option" which has now become a "trigger option".

What will be the "option du jour" by next Wednesday? What will Obama's apologists have to be defending here by then?

Change we could believe in? Hardly. Not even chump change.

What a joke.

How pathetic.

Absolutely pathetic.

A "trigger". Gag me.

That was the idea that could become reality if we had a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

Sickening.

Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 03:54 PM by cascadiance
I'll wait until 9/9/9 before making any firm judgement on that though.

Obama owes us, his party base, a BIG explanation on how he intends to serve our interests! You better not wimp out Barack! I'm running out of patience for promises that have substance, and are more than just talk!

There will be a lot of Blue Dogs in 2010 wanting progressives to help them. I don't see it happening.

12. Primaries? Dennis for starters... Maybe more will come later. Bernie Sanders in general election.
A lot depends on who one might persuade to form a new party, if we go that route. I'd like to think that the progressive caucus in the House, if they feel they've been f'd enough might be a good nucleus to start with.

And we could campaign for Lynn Woolsey as the new Speaker of the House if we win enough seats! I can only dream! :)

5. I sincerely hope that this trigger bullshit does not pass.
If they pass a three year trigger or five year trigger or whatever, three or five years from now the healthcare execs will appear before Congress and give a great big warm and fuzzy atta-boy speech about how much they have changed. Then the corporate lackey congresspersons, Democrat and republican alike, will begin the obligatory verbal felating about how their bi-partisan "reform" worked.

Missing from the hearings.... Everyday Americans that are getting fucked with continued rising premiums and worthless coverage.

13. His White House is speaking everyday.
Is Obama in charge or are the trial balloons just his staff out of control?

The only news after Wednesday will be how his sell-out on national healthcare will be rationalized here by those who treasure personality over policy.

Obama Doesn’t Want You To Know He Knows Public Option Is Popular
By: emptywheel

Greg Sargent has a really important find.

The White House is circulating happy poll numbers in favor of health care reform.

But the White House is not circulating the happy poll numbers--from the very same polls!!--in favor of the public option.

Okay, so the White House is circulating an upbeat polling memo citing a bunch of public surveys showing that public opinion still tilts heavily in Obama’s favor on health care.

The memo, by Obama pollster Joel Benenson, doesn’t mention the public option (the White House may not be committed to it) and largely cites general numbers showing support for action and for Obama’s plan.

But here’s the funny thing: We went back and checked, and virtually every poll cited in this memo also found strong support for the inclusion of a pulic plan.

Click through for Greg's numbers: the White House doesn't want you to know that 60%, 55%, and 59% (and 43% in a flawed MSNBC poll) of people surveyed want a public option.

So Obama is not just planning to ditch progressives and the rest of the majority of the country in favor of a public option. But he's willing to be dishonest in doing so.

18. He shouldn't give a shit what the polls say
He should do what's right for the American people.

The polls on September 13, 2001 said that 91% of Americans stood with the Chimp. And all 91% of them were fucking MORONS for doing so, even under those circumstances (which the Chimp and his co-criminals may well have created in the first place, but that's beside the point)

I don't care if some corporate media poll says only 1% of the people want REAL health care reform. Do it because it's the right fucking thing to do.

But if were going to go by polls, what the fuck happened to the 76% for single payer from last month?

Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 05:11 PM by cascadiance
Dems, if you want to do what's "right", don't continue to look at K Street for your guidance! 9 times out of 10, even if they have corporate media sponsored polls to try and "back up" their advice, it will be the WRONG advice to do what's wright for the American people and ultimately win favor with them.

If you want to follow your gut to do what's right, listen to what the grass roots organizations are telling you! Look at why doctors are willing to be arrested to make their points!

If you don't take risks to do the right thing, you don't deserve my vote! Period!

22. Liberals (House members) push Obama on public option
Liberals (House members) push Obama on public option
Source: MSNBC

From NBC's Mike Viqueira
Rep. Lynn Woolsey, of the Progressive Caucus, released the following on health care after their conference call with the president:

President Obama discussed health care reform today in a conference call with leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Tri-Caucus, which comprises the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Caucus leaders expressed absolute commitment to the idea of a robust public option, and said they expect it to be part of any health care reform legislation.

The president listened, asked many questions, and suggested that the dialogue should continue.

A follow-up meeting between the president and caucus leaders will take place next Tuesday or Wednesday at the White House.

39. I've listened to our President, his Secretary of Health and his White House spokespersons.
Sorry. We were betrayed. On Wednesday next week, you will either deal honestly with that betrayal or begin rationalizing that betrayal with "talking points" from the White House.

The panic will be all yours. I've seen enough. Eight months worth.

Obama is a weak man who is addicted to adulation and applause and who surrounded himself in his cabinet with a group that Bush would have liked.

Panic? Hardly. We're well into Bush's third term.

35. It's a way to allow moderates to say "We gave the insurance companies a chance...."
... "To make insurance affordable enough for every American to have it, and they haven't. Now we have no choice but to step in."

Do you honestly think insurance companies, even with the powerful goad of knowing they will lose even more profits if they do not make health care affordable, will be able to get premiums lowered so the $4500 affordability credit will be enough for a family to purchase a plan that will have adequate coverage? I don't think so.

The "trigger" will get pulled. No question.

If this is the way we get the public option, I'll be happy -- so long as we get it.
