Really.
I have been, and some may have seen that do not have me blocked, a warrior for PC. Obviously some picked up on the joke, others have not.
Reasonableness in this situation concerning he who will not be mentioned again was a possibility. Sadly this was not the case. Rants for everything short of demands that he move to France were made. A few facts are obviously ignored.
We as humans try to be better every day, and I believe this to be true, except for republicans. It is difficult to make the judgement calls that make up our everyday life, and now we have to make a quick on the spot judgement call to laugh. Yes it is true, the ignorant client, the close minded partner of the firm, the ignoramus at the snack machine. It's gotten so confusing if to laugh, and how much, or not to laugh and what to to do when they realize you are not.
The wires are crossed, the messages muddled. African Americans call each other things that a white person dare not say. Latinos, women, gay, there are so many possibilities of offense. But if you are true to yourself and honest in your feelings, then if a mistake is made, then the person offended will accept an apology. The man that started this all was obviously neither. I have always and still maintain that he was comfortable, pompous, and thought that anything could be said. He thought wrong, and was punished. There is no disagreement on that.
Anyone that tells you on this site that laughing at comedians, playing video games, enjoying free speech, and generally having fun not at the expense of others and hurting them is wrong. Actually the most hatefull thing that I have ever seen on this site was the opinion of another that mused over my misguided motives for loving and missing a yes, Black man and missing him horribly as he is dead now. This is intolerance of a new viral and insidious point of view that is appalling. The never forgiven, the always racist. Deep in the soul racism that is never gone.
So its' OK to laugh, it's OK to tell your gay friend, look over there, that's a hot guy, and make jokes about you in the way friends do, or guys when they are together do, or women, or lovers, or roomates, it just does not matter. It seems to me things get better for us as a society when we cut ourselves some slack. Some think otherwise, and then the all or nothing rule applies. The people who do not believe in the things we do and strive for for a better world know this, and use it against us. They never have played with decency and honor, not one of them, or fought for a just cause, as they are busy dismantling everything we strive for. Do we need to give them more to use against us?
So it is OK to laugh. Make a joke and lighten up, listen to a rap song (I do not understand rap, and actually do not like some forms of it but do others), I will defend that persons right to make it. The market and people have the ultimate decision. Maybe this has hopefully lead them to see that bashing gays and women is really not what it is about, but they have that right.
Time to lighten up...
