Young Democrat lawyer came to my door running for local Justice
he could use some good vibes from our community. Please give him a shout out, it would do his spirit good in my mostly red community.

3. YOU are using it as a noun. The O.P. was using it as a modifier.
Are you familiar with Frank LUNTZ, the Rethug pollster who does focus testing on how words come acoss, favorably/unfavorably, and how he got all the Wingnuts to start callins us "DemoCRAT" (singular) because it tested badly?

4. Oh absolutely. That shit drives me up a fucking wall.
It goes way back further than Luntz. Didn't Strom and his gang start it in the 40s?

It just doesn't sound right for me to call myself a Democratic carpenter.

The REAL insult is when they say Democrat PARTY.

5. The "Party" in Democratic carpenter/lawer is implied: Democratic (Party) carpenter.

Or, even if it's not, it's still an adjective, DemocratIC.

9. Try this:
"A Democrat, who happens to be an attorney, knocked on my door today."

The Op was using Democrat as the noun.

I see where you are coming from but I think you are getting a little too wrapped up.

The O.P. and I (below) have met minds and departed.

Now, your changing the sentence contruction to some other sentence construction doesn't equate to the other sentence construction.

"Democrat" is a noun. Period. If the O.P. had said, "A Democrat, a lawyer, came to my door" (with the "a" in front of "lawyer") there would be two, indisputable nouns in play. WithOUT the "a", "Democrat" is in a POSITION (at least) of being a modifier.

O.K., that's it for me. Take the last word. Nighty night.

12. Changing the sentence structure often helps when determining whether something works - or not.
Anyway, the lack of "A" at the beginning of the sentence indicated to me the OP was being LESS than formal in their structure (like both you and I were being in our restructuring).

It's not a big deal - we're on the same side here. I just get a little annoyed when people jump on other posters and accuse them of using that pejorative when it CLEARLY isn't the case.

Perhaps I share your passion ..... just ask the guy who, while trying to pick me up in a bar, made the mistake crack that Obama and his health plans are communist and socialist - the poor sap was stuttering and on the verge of tears when I finished with him.

Btw, "wrapped up' wasn't meant to be offensive. Sorry if it was.

Sleep tight and don't let the bed-bugs bite. :)

6. thats what I meant...sheesh he is a Democrat that belongs to the Democratic Party...

I believe my term was correct. When you go to the polling place what does it say? If you stooping that low to semantics on describing a Democrat in the Democratic Party then were in deep pooh. Perhaps thats the major problem today. Don't even go where I thinking your going because my family goes back more than 50 + yrs in elected Ny Democratic Politics.

7. You are assuming wrongly: "Don't even go where I thinking your going"
Most of the time I'm precise about what I'm saying, except when I'm erratic. I said what I meant in the original post and in my responses to the other poster. That is all.

Actually, I was HELPING you.
